Football Insider reported the other day that he's already started training with us, and is just waiting for international clearance before we can make it official. Frustrating not knowing what's going on, but hopefully it wll get sorted soon, in the long term it could the most important signing we make this window.

Just reading that when he left Albion to join Barcelona it took three months for him to get international clearance, with under eighteens I think it takes longer as there are more things they need to check and make sure of before granting it...

Barcelona confirmed the signing of Barry from West Bromwich Albion in July but the teenager has been forced to wait for his first competitive appearance. England youth international Barry, 16, featured in preseason, scoring several goals, but has been unable to play in any of the side's five league games or either of the two UEFA Youth League fixtures to date.  The reason for the delay has been a bureaucratic issue with Barca forced to wait for world football's governing body to clear the transfer. A number of aspects of the deal needed to be checked, including the player's education program at his new club.

Just now, It's Your Round said:

Why would he need international clearance to come back to GB? Genuine question, he’s not Spanish, he’s a British national!

That’s what I was thinking. Unless it’s because he become a Spanish resident?

Plus he’s one of our own, his Mom will drop him at the gates and pick him up later. It’s not as though we’re child traffickers like Chelsea.

I’m sure Uncle Jack would give him a lift home occasionally as well.

This is from the FA website...

In accordance with FIFA Regulations, international clearance is required for any player over the age of 10 who is seeking to register for a club in England and has previously been registered for a club abroad (including the other Home Associations), or who is a foreign national seeking to register for the first time in this country.

If the player is under the age of 18, they are subject to the provisions of FIFA Article 19 (attached below). International clearance is applicable at all levels of the game and further information on how to apply for international clearance for amateur players can be found below.

If you require further information on international clearance in relation to professional players please contact The FA Player Status team.

So regardless of the fact that he's English he still needs international clearance because he was registered with Barcelona.
