He's assistant head coach with ROK and Cutler. Do you think it's wrong to assume that Cutler is GK coach?

No because he is a goalkeeping coach by profession. I have never seen it stated that Terry is a defensive specialist coach. But someone said above that Smith has said at some point he is coaching the defenders, in which case I am likely entirely wrong!

Edit: does ROK just coach the front three? Does anyone coach midfield? Is that the issue? ;)

Get some Tom Carroll vibes over this signing.

Can't see him playing much.

I was getting more of a Tom Cleverly vibe about him...

I reckon if he is given the reigns to show what he can do, he could really give us some well needed bite in midfield

Well that would be amazing. Cleverley was really, really good for us.

Not sure about Drinkwater. He was brilliant the season Leicester won the league but done nothing else since and to not get into that Burnley side makes you wonder just how he's been performing in training.

Hopefully, Danny will prove to us all why he was a Premier League Champion.

we're not. Not sure how much but definitely not in full. ( see tweets from journo up the thread ) Still might be 50 or 60% of it though.

I can't abide drink-drivers so that's a big black mark against him for me, aside from fitness concerns, but we'll just have to hope he is sincere about getting back on track. This is a product of circumstance, making do, rather than actively pursuing him.

I feel the same about drink drivers but I’m aware of my own hypocrisy because if we were signing someone like Marcos Alonso at left back I would probably be pleased and he is whole levels above Drinkwater on this.

He's the type of midfielder that even if he comes and does a good job the poor guy will still probably get criticism unless he plays like the doppelganger of briliant German midielder Lothar Matthäus, see also Westwood, Whelan, even Petrov had it as well, and even now Luiz and Nakamba are too harshy criticized... It's not just Villa fans, these types of players just happen to play in a position that often goes underrated, see also Dier, Winks, and Henderson at other clubs too.

As for the personal issues I also find it funny calling him Danny Drinkbeer or whatever, but I wouldn't smudge too much on that. Of course it sounds bad but we don't know about the circumstances, anyone can make mistakes and for me it's more about how he makes up for it.

Think it's fairly well documented.. Got shitfaced, Jumped into his range rover and put it through a wall injuring himself & his passengers (& possibly another vehicle which mysteriously wasn't mentioned in court despite apparently being involved in the incident) Could have been much worse and no reason at all for anyone, let alone a multi-millionaire to be driving when 2.5 times the legal limit. Also drunk in a bar during this season (same weekend we bored west ham to death) trying to steal another footballers girlfriend before headbutting him on the dancefloor which he later got a pasting for outside, damaging his ankle ligaments in the process. No idea why we have signed the prick

Isn't he more like Danny Drinks anything?

Not so sure of taking a player that cannot get in that rubbish Burnley side.

And yet in the Glenn Whelan thread you are saying we could do with him back, a player that couldnt get in the Hearts side.

Oh fair enough, I had completely missed this. Where was it? An interview?

I think it may have been in his pre Burnley press conference. Can’t remember to be honest but he definitely said it.

Why has everyone decided it’s fact that he is on £110k per week and Villa are paying all of it?

Even if it’s true it’s £2m for a Premier League winner from Chelsea (reserves). Not a fortune really. We bought plenty of players for £10m+ then wages on top from Championship teams on 4 year deals that were not up to scratch.

We aren't paying anywhere near his full weekly wage. Burnley were paying about half and we got roughly the same deal from Chelsea. Drinkwater cancelled his loan with Burnley and agreed to the Villa loan deal the next day. If he wasn't looking for a challenge he could have happily stayed at Chelsea and trained with the reserves the rest of the year.

I think Dean has earned the benefit of doubt. He picked Ming's when he was fifth choice at Bournemouth this time last year and now we are above them.

You can’t even tell if that’s him or not to be fair...

It’s him. Same vid is included in a few news stories about the incident, and it matches with the story. Also it looks just like him.

I’m not fussed tbh. If he gets in situations like this while he’s here then that would be disappointing, but I imagine he realises this is last chance saloon now.

You'd never find ANY of our players in a position like that....

I'm so glad Jack got better friends. Notice barely any pics from his multiple day promotion bender ever turned up. Thank God camera phones were barely a thing when I was around his age.

Honestly thought this was a wind up.

Hopefully he surprises us, because for the past couple of years he's looked like he's in semi-retirement and couldn't give a **** anymore.
