Thought we were OK, like most games, no one embarrasses us. Chelsea with home advantage is difficult, they are flying at the moment but we were in the game until the last minute. Their depth of squad and quality was telling, our lack of it too. We are 3 or 4 quality forwards/attacking players short of being at their level. Not bad really.

Grealish struggled but he can’t be superman every week; McGinn looks like he needs a rest for me. I thought Wesley played OK for the team, but he is a blunt instrument and we really need more from that position by now, at the very least real competition. Luiz was Bright too. We need someone a with an X factor to bring on to shake it up.

Mings continued his sloppiness, needs to sort that out.

Work in progress, same old story: good, competitive but just not quite good enough. Still work to do. No bad teams in the league this season which makes it harder.

Well Chelsea wasn't there for the taking for us tonight, that's for sure.

Of course they weren’t....nobody ever is in this a league. Although it’s been mentioned that they were.
But just wait and see the usual moans about our lack of character/ fight/ bottle and all the rest of the cobblers.

Chelsea's quality proved a little too much for certain players tonight.  2-1 isnt a bad result given the chances they had.  If Tammy wasn't playing I think we may have had a chance to nick a point.

Engels needs to come back in for Konsa.

Mings had a few James Collins moments.

Heaton was superb.

Wasn't the right game for Conner to be starting

Wesley just doesn't get any better

Elmo didnt have too bad a game, but Guilbert is much better.

We did miss Guilbert, a lot! He's a real gem of a player. Hoping El Ghazi will be back on Sunday too.

So far this season I’ve heard Spurs, Bournemouth, West Ham, Burnley, Liverpool, Man United and now Chelsea, were “ there for the taking”.

Utterly, utterly ludicrous way of viewing football.

Agree they weren't there for the taking, that is ridiculous because they were the better side with better players, but... I do kind of understand the gist of what was being suggested in that despite that superiority, we stayed in the game and had the chances to nick a point we wouldn't have deserved, so it does feel like a missed opportunity. I think I'm just peeved at the 'almost but not quite' vibe of this year because it would be easier to process if we were just shite! As it is, it's hard to know if we are genuinely forming into something useful or just a lopsided mix of good and bad.

We are trying to win games with a dead weight on our back. Wesley is not Premier quality in any area of his game and is a major hindrance to our progress. Smith needs to have the balls to stand him down and give Kodjia a run until January, after which he simply has to bring in a couple of quality forwards.

Heaton motm followed by Luis. Before the season we expected to be take a few beatings and tonight could have been one but for heaton.

this team has more resilience than the teams we had the last few years in the prem. its a young team that are learning and adjusting to a tough league. Feels like we are a couple of players (striker and winger) away from being a solid midtable side and we need 2 or 3 better quality subs that can change games, looking at our bench tonight only Luis was really the quality we need to be able to bring on in these sort if games

work in progress, disappointing in parts but positives to take as well.

Well he's kind of half right. In a game that showed up Conors lack of pace, bringing on Jota seem surprising to me.

I guess the hope was for a bit of trickery in the last ten minutes, he’s as capable of anyone.

The real issue is that Jota, CH, Lansbury....are all decent, but lightweight, players. They’ll have their good days and their poor days. They, and the Coach, are doing a great job eeking out everything they can, but the run of fixtures Away from home has been relentlessly tough.

In a run against teams who we are in real competition with they will have more good days than poor.

Why would he remotely do this? Kodjia is packing his bags alrready to leave in Jan. Another forward signing a must though in Jan even if just a loan.

chelsea are under a transfer embargo and have had to promote lads from the academy to fill gaps.

Their star man Hazard left in the summer. They've lost the previous two. rookie manager who we beat 3 times last season I fancied a win tonight. Other teams have gone on the road and come back with big scalps.

If you look at it like this they were "there for the taking" tonight.

However they have an amazingly expensive spine like Willian who is not far off world class. Kante one of the best DM's Aspilaqueta who is an experienced prem player and a couple of others.

But when are we going to get a big scalp under smith? or are we the classic flat track bullies?

Chelsea are better than us. We just didn't click going forwards at all and severely struggled with Chelsea's work rate and ability. Chelsea aren't the force they were and look a little soft, and extremely wasteful. We missed Guilbert and el Ghazi. Both offer a threat and outlet that Trez and Elmo don't.

Heaton - very, very good performance. A couple of world class saves and kept the scoreline respectable whilst the defence went AWOL.

Targett - hard to shine when everyone around you is having a bad night. Didn't do a lot wrong, made some good clearances, offered a threat going forwards, but to no avail.

Mings - not his best. He's developed a habit of dropping a clanger and he had a few tonight that thankfully Chelsea couldn't utilise.

Konsa - a bad night. Couldn't cope with Chelsea when they went a bit more clever, and at fault in part at least for both goals.

Elmo - played Abraham on when Konsa had lost him, but equally was involved in everything good going forwards thanks to his quality crosses and made a few important clearances.

Nakamba - somewhat lost in the midfield. He was a constant terrier but Chelsea exploited it soon enough. He also really struggled to break up play or push us on, despite his efforts. Weird performance.

Hourihane - anonymous. These games don't suit him. He's a chippy bastard with a great left foot, but in games where we're getting overrun he struggles to be much more than a body.

McGinn - full of running but that was it. Played in Elmo for our goal with a clever pass but otherwise, not great. At the moment he's an engine, but without kicking the team on with a moment of brilliance.

Grealish - Everything good we do comes from him. He started the move for the goal, every attack he's there doing something. Fouled all night. Very good.

Trez - couldn't buy time on the ball first half, but then did what is rapidly becoming a trademark - popping up to knock in a chance from nothing. But he's not quite there and he's very, very raw.

Wesley - like Trez couldn't get the ball in the first half. The closest he came was a cross whistling over his head. He got better in the second half but still for nought. At one point in the second half he came so deep he was level with Nakamba. Not a good game but equally it was only when Luiz came on we started to put the ball to him, and he started to contribute.

Luiz - we looked instantly more threatening with him on the pitch. Added something to us, getting a foot on the ball, playing smarter balls. Nearly snatched a point at the death with a really excellent header. Growing into the side.

Jota - came on as a dice roll - he might spot that pass. He didn't.

Not a great night for us. We weren't awful, but we've certainly played better this season and a lot of it came from mistakes and it's looking a bit clueless going forward bizarrely. We missed Guilbert and el Ghazi badly, but we also looked short of ideas with no answer to anything Chelsea offered, which in turn lead to them opening us up at will. Thankfully Abraham still isn't clinical and the rest of that side seemed unable to finish tonight.

Lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, not exactly the end of the world.

We will know where we are by the end of December, we play most of the club's around us, we will wither be in a relegation fight or mid table by the end of December.

Was gonna give Heaton MotM but then figured that was boring and we did still concede twice, not that he could have done too much about either of them.

So gave it Elmo who I thought was pretty solid, probably should have done better with his one chance though.

Marked Smith as poor just really on the basis that I don’t know how Wesley remained on the pitch, Nakamba was also pretty awful i thought.

Mings seems to be getting worse since playing for England.

Konsa looked highly suspect, think we might see Engels back in the side on Sunday.

Better team won tonight

They were very good and we dug in , years ago that would have been a cricket score , we are definitely improving and that's all we can ask for at the moment

We are not at Chelsea level yet but if we keep on this upward curve who knows we might get there

Another PL relegation fight is looming.

Not sure what prompted this statement after that fixture and result: Chelsea away when they are in the groove?

We were always going to be in this position coming from how we got here (5th in the championship), but TBH we are close to doing something and it’s not even at the half way point. Everyone from 10th down is in the same boat and that’s no disgrace this season, it is VERY competitive. No one has embarrassed us this season, we are competitive. Not many other teams in the bottom half can say that. We have been far worse and avoided relegation. Granted we do need more forward options in January.

Chelsea created enough good chances to win that by 5 or 6 goals but they seem to have a bit if any issue with conversion. Also Heaton was magnificent. Thought the rest of the defence was a bit shaky.

We battled hard though, especially after Douglas Luiz came on. We had a much better attacking shape with him on the pitch and he got in a good few scoring positions.

I went to Stamford Bridge 7 years ago and watched them beat us 8-0. This Chelsea side is nowhere near as good as that one but they still have enough to beat us relatively comfortably.
