There's a huge difference between "comfortably retiring" wealthy and "living in a mansion and buying a new car every month" wealthy. Real committed to the contract, why on earth would he give up roughly 1500 times the average salary? He could settle for being rich, or he could see out an awkward two years and make sure his grandkids are equally rich. Bale is already at the 'living in a mansion and buying a new car very month stage'. Difficult to put a figure on it as different websites say different things, but he generally seems to be worth between £100m-£125m already. His grandkids are already set for life already.
Jimzk5
I'd normal have a rant about a player arguably in his prime happy to play in the reserves but the way real treat players, both as a club and from the fans I dont blame him one bit

At real yes, bale has won everything there, scoring crucial goals every season, scoring winning goals in champions league finals, yet they told him to piss off to China, the back tracked at the last minute and has been in limbo ever since The closest villa have to this was making Hutton train with the reserves.

NoelVilla
Real offered him that contract and no other European club will take even a part of it so far. Bale don't want to go play in China. There is a lot of blame for Real in this as well.

Apparently they initially agreed but then changed their mind. It all looks like Real / Zidane trying to make an example of Bale to show that if you cross them you’ll be frozen out. I don’t think it’s really working as Bale is living it up on £30m a year to just train and he’s stopping them recruit 1/2 quality replacements. I expect behind the scenes Bale is being a dick and putting in zero effort as retaliation for how he is being treated by the club. The whole thing is a mess. You’d think Madrid would be open to a loan so it must be Bale not entertaining that.
Genie
Done deal Quote Tottenham have re-signed Wales forward Gareth Bale from Spanish champions Real Madrid on a season-long loan. Bale, 31, left Spurs for a then world record £85m in 2013 and went on to score more than 100 goals and win four Champions Leagues with Real. "It's nice to be back. It's such a special club to me. It's where I made my name," said Bale. "Hopefully, now I can get some match fitness, get under way and really help the team and, hopefully, win trophies." He added: "I always thought when I did leave that I would love to come back." Link

Genie
I thought he’d be out of the match day squads initially as he needed to build his fitness but he actually has a knee injury. How has he got injured when he’s only played about 100 minutes of football all year? I’m quite surprised Levy has done this high risk deal unless he has something related to appearances in there which reduces the payments if he’s injured.
