Yes, absolutely. We should have had all the details with HMRC to hammer out and get all the relevant paperwork sorted well before the club had agreed to let us talk to the player and the player had agreed to come to us. I'm sure they would have been happy to receive speculative paperwork.

In fact we should have paperwork submitted for every player that might be on our radar, just in case.

Just cannot understand why we didnt do this. Baffling.

Typical VT response. Condescending, intolerant, arrogant and dismissive.

You don't actually need to know what's going on behind the scenes to judge the club on transfer dealings. It's one of the most transparent things to judge that I can think of. Either you get it right or you don't.

Now we're in a position where it seems we're starting our third (?) match in a row without a striker. That's just pathetic for me. Utterly embarrassing and seems the club is run like a corner shop, not a professional football club. I don't need to know the details or whether this or that goes on behind the scenes, because what's interesting is whether we've signed the players we need or not.

Not having a single striker in the whole squad for three of our most important games of the season, reflects very badly on the running of the club, there's no getting away from that, I doubt a single Premier league team has found themselves in this position, Tottenham not having a back up striker as good as Kane is a completely different situation, we haven't even got a specialist centre-forward in the reserves. We knew we needed a new striker even before Wesley got injured, it really should have been sorted much earlier.

This is nonsense - we had a backup striker in Kodjia. Who is Spurs’ backup striker? They literally don’t have one, despite being in that position for a LOT longer than us. Kodjia didn’t want to be a part of it (and you could tell) so we needed to get rid. Unfortunately, we haven’t managed to bring a striker in yet - despite obviously being close with Samatta.

We had a back up striker in Kodjia didn't use him and then sold him before we'd brought in a replacement, so that rather illuminates my point for me. Tottenham have got Son who can play as a striker, he virtually plays as one anyway, did so last season and they performed better as a team, they've also got highly rated youngsters who can play upfront as well, besides even if Spurs are in the same position as us, doesn't make it any more acceptable, we've got nowhere near the attacking quality that they have so not having specialized centre-forward affects us more, and we're the midst of a spell of games of much greater importance.

We used Kodjia - he didn’t perform and didn’t look like performing. He wanted out, so we didn’t use him to secure a deal out the club which has happened.

This isn’t Football Manager. You can’t always line everything up perfectly.

(Calling Son a striker is laughable, by the way)

Can’t see any work permit issues there...

Well Iran are 27th in the world so he would only need to have appeared in 60% of their recent internationals and judging by his caps in total and of those around him, wouldn't be surprised if he met that.

I didn't call Son a striker, I said he could play there, as he has done many times in his career, even when he's playing as a 'winger' he's not playing on the wing, he's playing as a wide-forward. So no calling him a striker isn't 'laughable'... Edit: Tottenham also have Moura who's also played many times a striker, or wide forward.

Spurs have attacking game changers off the bench aswell, Lucas Moura for one and Lamela can also be a decent impact sub.

To improve eventually we need a game changer or two off the bench. Seems like years since we've had an attacker like that, can't really think of anyone after Shaun Maloney.

Thought Jota would be a decent sub player but it hasn't turned out that way. I assume after the business is done likes of AEG and Trez will be regulars on the bench so really that's how you make the squad stronger, take out inconsistant players out of first 11.

Taremi seems to be doing pretty well in Portugal, he's known as the Iranian Zlatan, has a good goal scoring record at internatinal level too, not sure of the oppostion though. Looks a good player.
