He's looked really shaky this season, but before we get too 'I told you so', it could be down to a total lack of confidence. He's in a Stoke team that he took down from the Prem, and has had loads of bad games and embarrassing moments for, so I can't imagine that the team in front of him are too confident in his ability, which, in-turn, isn't going to do him any good either.

£25m now looks steep, but had we got him, he might have looked like a completely different Butland. I'm sure he's still good enough for a lower Prem team (with a confidence boost and a half-competent defence in front of him!). You don't usually get in and around the England set-up if you haven't got some ability.

He has some ability as the Youtube reels show but I'm not really convinced on his organisation, dominance of six yard box or even his kicking. Think Heaton is better all round keeper so you had that issue of spending 20m on him and then Heaton gets fit again and has to play as he's simply much better.

This idea that the EFL will or can punish us for breaching FFP if we get relegated is wrong, for one they've already cleared of us any wrong doings, and if they had have found us to have broken FFP rules whilst a championship club, they wouldn't have to wait for us to get relegated back to the championship before they punished us, that used to be the case and I think it's what happened with QPR, but it changed so that the EFL can now punish a team for breaching FFP even if they win promotion. In other words if we'd have done anything wrong in the EFL's eyes we would have already been punished.

That's not how it works I don't think (on your final sentence). They didn't punish us last time round on the basis of the last 3 years rolling finances. It can happen every season if the previous 3 years finances exceed the limit permitted.

We all know how close we have been every year and have gotten lucky with new owners, HS2 Money etc coming in at the right time.

I would imagine our additional wages and promotion bonuses along with the money we spent this summer would hammer us if we were to be relegated.

Fortunately we won't be, so let's spend some money😄

Well your FFP thread has been locked so I should be posting it on there, unless there's a new one but by rights, if you're on track to fail, or under investigation you should be under a soft embargo right now tbh.

I dare say quite a big EFL punishment would be possible if relegated?

Don't know why the PL aren't enforcing EFL requests...or maybe they are.

I've looked at a few posts on here and FFP does NOT reset, it's rolling, what changes is the loss limit in the PL I believe. It's harmonised to a point.

The difference is that instead of rolling £13m x 3, it's £13m x 2 + £35m.

@Dave-R should also read up on it. So should one or two others.

The question is whether points can be imposed in this League or if it's just fines etc.

Sorry to disappoint you but Purslow has already commented that we did not breach EFL profit and sustainability rules.

We are very much agreed on Giroud over Batshuayi. I know Giroud is older and hasn't played much recently, but he is good at a lot of the things we're weak at. My concern is whether a 33-year old Giroud who hasn't played much is capable of playing as often as we might need him to without picking up an injury himself.

Wages would be a concern for either but Villa don't really have much choice at the moment.

I'd be concerned whether a French world Cup winner in the twilight of his career would have the hunger required to slug it out in a relegation dogfight.

I remember watching Gustavo Bartelt playing in a pre season friendly against Bromsgrove Rovers right at the end of the 90's. He played with alongside Alan Thompson and he yelled at Gus and then pointed and even pushed him into position all the time he was on the pitch (Bartelt didn't speak English). There were some hard men in that squad and Gus didn't fancy it at all. Gregory got rid of him as soon as he could.

whats changed?

I'll bet he spoke English when his contract needed signing.

Gregg Evans has said we're looking at a number of striker targets including Batshuayi and a number playing across Europe. Don't think there's any chance that we're interested in Giroud we'll want someone younger who will potentially be at the club for a while, short-term fixes are a big part of the reason why we had rebuild most of the squad in the summer, doubt we'll want to repeat that mistake. Besides whenever I've seen him play for either Chelseas, Arsenal or France he seems to need a lot of chances before he scores a goal, and we aren't going to create anywhere near as many chances as those teams, needs good players around. No that I would be complaining if it did happen, just doubt that it will.

Agree re physicality. We are, and have been for a number years, too small physically in midfield. All of our midfielders are more technical players without the raw physicality needed to boss PL games. We really need a physical presence there.

Up top, again we need some physicality and some genuine pace.

We clearly lack both attributes at present; attributes that are essential to PL survival.

But you say that, and so do I ..........but its a scandal we are still saying it.

I worry that the penny is trying to drop, but has not quite dropped yet.

Dean needs to toughen up in his view of premiership football......The last game was a little bit encouraging.

surely Dean can see what Nigel Pearson has done in wet day.....its so freakin' obvious.

However, an intrinsic belief in a battle......is usually there under any circumstances.

I'm not sure that's how it works. Probably hired a lawyer who speaks English considering the money at stake.

I also doubt many, if any, players signing a contract in their native language actually read the contract themselves. You pay someone who specialises to do that.

Yes indeed, fair point, on paper would be an ideal signing . Although he hasn't been impressive for Chelsea since he arrived there a few years ago, not sure moving to villa now would inspire him.

You're welcome.

You must be a more natural linguist than me as I'm pretty sure even if signed on the first day a transfer window opened I wouldn't be able to learn a new language before it closed. My 8+ years studying French at school can attest to that. If I did speak the language I'd be one of the few who read the contract though. Still doesn't mean I'd have a good grasp of it as a lot of contracts I've read are incredibly difficult to interpret if you aren't familiar with the intricacies.

Ahh, you're one of those that thinks someone who studied something for several years then worked in the field for a decade more couldn't possible know more than you. I can see why we don't see eye to eye on that.

Be interesting to see who me manage to get in. Should be an exciting few weeks.

We can do this - the famous and great Aston Villa!😀

Great clip.

I am the only one who thinks Villa (and Everton) do not get enough respect.

I mean never out of the top six for points scored in league footballs entire history?

its like we are just having a little dip but only Villa fans seem to understand.

We are talking English.....nearly a global Language.

The Premier League is arguably the most affluent league in the world.

Yes me too....I can see why we don't see eye to eye.......but hey!!! we can work on it.

So? If you don't speak a language you can't just say 'well 40% of my country do so I will now'.

Which is why I'd hire someone who is an expert in the field to review it.

I agree with you on plenty, but thought that was a very odd point. As for the mindset of knowing more than an expert could, I think we'll remain divided there. I'd see a lawyer to deal with legal issues, a doctor to deal with my health, a plumber to do my plumbing...you get the point.

I have a simple tip for the recruitment team, assuming prospective players have talent, but  if they haven't got the " Eye of the Tiger "

**** em off.
