Wrestling Games

Can't believe I missed this topic first time round.

No Mercy on the N64 is still the greatest wrestling game I've ever played. It was superb.

If that AEW game is along the same lines then it's worth a look.

I haven't liked the WWE ones for years

The wrestlers look fat and rounded on the AEW game which gives me hope it'll be like Revenge/WM2000/No Mercy

The director of No Mercy is on board so there's a good chance it'll be somewhat like it

I really hope this game is good.

I used to look forward to the new releases of WWF/WWE games, but for the longest time I haven't cared.

AEW made me care about wrestling again after years of a trash garbage WWE product. If AEW can do the same for wrestling games it'll be fantastic.

I can't remember which iteration but it was one of the Smackdown vs Raw entries for me that was the last, really good game.  Continually diminishing returns (and the shit-show that's been the 2K series) ground the joy out of it.

Ditto (though I have been enjoying the odd bit of NXT whenever I've tuned in).

2010 SvR, I think?

Might be, yeah I think it was actually.  Was the last one for years that had a proper, fleshed out/decent Single Player Campaign written around your CAW, until 2K dusted the idea off for a (half-assed) pop at it two iterations ago.  Everything in between was just focused on Road To Wrestlemania/Historical Matches which got boring real quick for me.  Whatever version it was, they'd also absolutely perfected CAW as a game mode by that point, as you could; use .mp3s from your HD as entrance music, use replays from matches to build titantron vids, use create-a-finisher to put together somewhat unique moves (or ones missing from the in-game moveset) and download complete packages other people had created.  In essence, with enough time you could have absolutely any wrestler you could think of in your game and no element of using them would be immersion breaking.

That everything to happen since has been a retrograde step in some way or another is/was a continual source of disappointment.  Feck it, I've still got my 360, might go see if I can find a cheap copy on eBay or something.

It was also the one where you could creat high flying moves for the wrestler, draw logos and other new CAW features. The main modes were, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Undertaker, a Tag Team one, Mickey James and also a specialised CAW story?

Damn, I am remembering just how good it was!

You could also create you own WWE programming that lasted 20 years I think, so you could literally be Vince 😀

In hindsight perhaps the Bail-out-a-murderer mode was a bit too far.

Spent all day unboxing my Xbox 360 games and I don’t have SVR2011. It must have been one I got rid of when I sold my 360, mad! I kept Saw 2 ffs 😂

So I’ve ordered it and I’m gonna give it a go and see if it is as good as I remember.

They need a retro wwe game.

You know how they have mario collections why not release a wrestling one for things like no mercy, attitude era nwo vs wcw etc.

I would love that

Licensing, basically.

There were rumours of a Here Comes the Pain remake, but that seems to have come to nothing.

Get the series away from 2K and we might see something half decent.
