I recall a game at Villa Park v Chelsea where he was meant to be in the crowd and due to a pre-match problem with the ref Friend had to take control of the game instead. It was the worst refereeing display I had ever seen. He gave every decision to. Chelsea. He went on to pretty much be the same in every game Villa played during our last Premier League spell.
