We have had a few homegrown strikers come through with varying degrees of success.

Will he be a Gabby or Vassell ?

Or a Delfouneso or Luke Moore?

Its strange but the 2nd two were far more rounded strikers than the first 2 at 17 or 18 who were all about extreme pace.

What Cam has is a nice blend . Pretty quick and pretty strong but with decent movement and great finishing off both feet.

The best thing is he is learning to play up top by himself at Boro kind of like Ollie does currently.  He is also learning about partnerships and Akpom and him seem to already have a real understanding. He is not just getting on the end of balls in the box. 3 assists already to go with his 6 goals.

And to top it off he has a really humble personality. And is immensely likeable. People seem to take to him. Boro and Preston were falling in love from week 1 .

There is no stagnation which is what i feared after his 6 months of 5 mins here and 5 mins there.  Learning the game at a team which plays great football. Not too disimilar to how we play now.

All bodes well for his development. If he has come back from Boro with double figures and a far more rounded game then thats the best we can hope  for.  The rest is in the lap of the gods and Emerys vision of the future.

And if he does leave then it will be another £20 mill min from our academy to invest in the squad .

Playing france at 5pm . ENGLAND  U21s

Its on BBC iplayer from 5pm .

Him and JJ in the squad which is full of talent. That said Balogan pulled out so Archer is the only natural striker in the squad so hopefully gets to start.

Archer starts, Ramsey is on the bench.

Not sure why they're still bothering with Max Aarons, he's 23,  I'm presuming he still qualifies for the Euros on some technicallity, maybe because he was 21 when during qualifiers, but seems like it should be against the spirit of the competition to play older players to me, it's not as if England don't have other decent right-back options with Spence and Lewis.

I think the most likely scenario is that he gets sold this summer. It was pretty well rumoured that Villa/Emery were looking around for a flagship striker in the January window, so they'll presumably try again. Combined with the Durán signing, I think the management will take a good offer for him if they can: Archer's 1st team pathway is going to look pretty closed off in the medium-term.

The best case scenario for Villa is if Boro get promoted, as you'll have a scenario very similar to how Bournemouth sold Mings: the selling club holding almost of the cards, and the buying club almost obligated to pay a premium for an indispensable player. I have a sneaky suspicion that's why Villa refused to put a buyout clause in Archer's loan deal.

Over the next few years, making these FFP pure-profit academy sales is going to be so crucial in allowing Villa to continue financially competing with FFP. We already did an excellent job with Chukwuemeka given his circumstances (£20m for someone Chelsea could have gotten for free in a few months time?!?).

I might be entirely wrong, mind you, but if Villa sign another striker then that's Watkins, a new striker, Duran, Archer and possibly Bailey (😬). I struggle to see how Archer can get in ahead of the first 3 names in particular. Then comes a high risk of him stagnating on the bench. I could foresee that exact scenario with prior managements & ownerships, with their questionable squad building, but not this one. I think it just makes sense.

Not sure where Balogun is but very good to see him starting for England under 21s.

If he gets plenty of minutes in premier league next season he could well get an England senior call up at some stage.

Did someone really say on here last week we should sell him for 15m?!😂 Like we're back in about 2013 with valuations like that.

Up against Simakan and Badiashile, two players with a good amount of top level experience, so a good test for him.

England midfield selection looks a little naive, Smith Rowe, Gomes, Elliott, andGibbs-White, all flair players, probably could do with more of an all rounder box-to-box midfielder like Ramsey in there, especially against a team like France.

Outmuscled and outskilled so far. Badiashile looks like a future world star. Got the lot .

France do have an insane talent pool to draw from though

Can't really read too much into his performance, has had no service, when the ball has come near him he's always been second favorite to do something because the delivery hasn't been great, bascially can't do nothing if the ball is hit at him high up at pace surrounded by two or three French defenders.

Spot on, service has been awful. Midfield has been non existent.

Despite quiet half could have scored a few, from difficult chance forced French keeper into good save, and just before that if Spence's cross had have been better would have had a free header - Spence did very well to create crossing chance in first place, just over hit the cross. Hopefully gets better service in second half.

I know people who think we should sell him for £10m, but he’s out there alongside established PL players like Smith Rowe, Gibbs-White, Badiashiale, etc and all City and Chelsea’s top prospects. We want to hang on to this kid, I promise you.

Was a difficult game for him, service wasn't great, up against two defenders with way more top level experience than him, a few times in the second half could have done better. But overall wasn't bad considering, unlucky not to score first half.

I think him coming off early probably a good sign that he might be starting again next match because he's the only actual striker in the squad, then again seeing how well they did playing without a specialist striker after he was subbed, they might be tempted to play like that from the start against Croatia.

If he was on the pitch after the likes of Ramsey, Jones, and Madueke came on I think would have done better, as they were creating more of the kind of situations that he would have thrived from.
