What have Newcastle actually won that have granted them the "big club" status?

They're a reasonably big city with a single team and importantly a big stadium, who at the infancy of the Premier League had a good side that played very exciting football. And then they bought the most prolific striker the league's ever known and had a beloved manager and became a top half shoe in for years. So they basically gained a reputation that punched above their weight because they kinda became the media (and especially Sky's) second team in some ways. And eventually it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Kinda the opposite of Villa.

hmm, Newcastle winning isnt good for us......we need our relegation competition not winning at Spurs preferably.......

Agreed. Doubt Newcastle will keep this up though. They're sitting very deep atm.

No idea why Spurs sold Trippier.

'Poor' season last year, £20m and apparent toxic off field stuff meant Spurs were happy to sell him and he was happy to go.

Be interesting to see if the rumours of Spurs having off field troubles come to light. It's been talked about all summer that something was up and Pochettino doesn't appear to have be been very impressed with their transfer window. You wonder if he wanted certain players in and Levy's said no.

Uefa cup could well do to wolves what it did to burnley last year. I know the first couple of rounds are effectively semi competitive friendlies but most players simply are not used to playing Thursday/Sunday and it always has a bit of an impact even if it is just the additional travel/travel time throwing people out of their usual routine
