Marvelous Nakamba

We wouldn’t have finished below Leeds or Everton if he played more games when Jack was injured - I just don’t see how. We look so much defensively secure with him in the team.

Spectacular performance from him today, at fault for the Spurs goal in the last game but ended up good in that aswell.

Has his faults but today showed when we are making the space tight he can be an effective player.

I thought he was brilliant today, gets around the pitch, loves a challenge and he is distributing the ball much better.

The block edge of the box from Mount was brilliant too, a shot that seemed destined for the goal when they were getting the better of us. I think that very moment we were galvanised from his block and grew into the game.

MOTM for me.

You made me curious. I believe these are all his starts this season.

Burnley 0-0 90 minutes

Newcastle 2-0 90 minutes

Arsenal 1-0 90 minutes

Leeds 1-0 90 minutes

Sheff Utd 0-1 68 minutes

Liverpool 1-2 66 minutes

Man City 1-2 63 minutes

Spurs 2-1 89 minutes

Chelsea 2-1 90 minutes

5 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats. Villa were drawing against Liverpool when he was taken off if that is of any consideration.

Noticed he put his comments on his insta posts to limited.

Heavy abuse must have been posted to this guy as well.

Very sad.

Think most of our players have done so already

If he had Luiz's passing ability, or Luiz had his tenacity we'd have the perfect player for the DM slot.

Are DM's today really expected to be playmakers?

Really don't think so. Nakamba just needs to win the ball and pass it to his closest man. Find the easiest pass there is.

Interesting that he seems to have played against the better sides who have more of the ball and press more... and also the (arguably) weakest at this in the league.  (Appreciate this won't show in the quote so just looks odd).

What a difference it makes when we have a balanced midfield. And by that, I mean, a defensive midfielder (Nakamba), an all action no. 8 (McGinn) and a playmaker comfortable with the ball at his feet (Grealish).

Is Luiz a better footballer than Nakamba? Possibly. No, in fact, probably, but it’s a team game and every side has a balance with people doing their jobs and specific roles to allow other players to ‘do their thing’.

I’m not using this post as a way to bash Luiz, but until he finds his position within the team, whether that be as a 6,8,10, I’m all for having specialist players playing in the position that they excel in.

Nakamba has arguably been a MOTM contender in every match he has played this season. He’s made me look stupid as I had written him off before the season and also shut up a lot of fans criticising him before the season. The same goes for El Ghazi and Hause. These fringe players have all done a job when asked.

The performances of Nakamba in the last two games have helped us beat ESL opposition. The elite of the elite. Teams we should be thankful we even get to share a pitch with. This not only solidifies my opinion that Nakamba is a very useful player to have in the squad, but also that a top quality defensive midfielder will transform us from being an 11th place team to a team challenging the top 6.

It’s a really important position and whilst Nakamba is limited in a lot of aspects, he brings us balance and he never ever shys away from a battle and throwing his body on the line.

Enjoy your summer, lad.

We both struggle and concede goals against the weaker sides.

Conceded 3 to Crystal Palace. Conceded 3 against Burnley.

I'm not on board on this horses for courses wagon.

I would play Nakamba in every game, gives us better balance, and protects our defence more.

Jack, Traore, Watkins, McGinn an El Ghazi is more than enough firepower to get you goals especially against weaker sides.

Goes for alot of our positional players.

You would think in this transfer window and the ones going forward, we will be able to attract/afford more complete articles.

These guys pretty much " cost "what we paid for them, for the most part.
