Before Christmas we clicked, we can do it again, he can do it again, he has real potential but can he step up to our next level or do we bring in a ready made alternative. Because if you try to play like him you'll be using your energy up far too quickly - the guy has freakish levels of running in him. That's because Davis and Wesley have different playstyles to Watkins, it wouldn't work because you're trying to have them play against their strengths. Not to mention what looks like a blistering shot on him. Obviously they play slightly different roles, as Luiz has operated for us as DCM and Sanches is very definitely a CM. So maybe an unfair comparison. I think we have seen enough now to know he is not going to be a great DM but I think his carrying, passing and shooting could make him a good CM option. I like him sitting deep, collecting the ball off the CB's and positioning himself in passing lanes when we don't have the ball. I think we need our #8's to be able to run with the ball like McGinn. Sanson satisfies that criteria, and he's got a good engine on him to boot. Hoping Dougie recaptures that post-lockdown form. He hasn’t signed a new deal and he is relatively valuable whilst also being replaceable. If the rumours are true that we are also after a dcm then it is even more likely that Doug will move on.
