Has he had any minutes at the Copa yet? Thinking he might play tonight as they're comfortably top of the group.

He was suspended for one of the qualifiers and they've kept the same midfield structure since then.

Does seem a bit of a waste calling him up for this tournament though when they've very well stocked in midfield and seems he's going to Olympics so would've made more sense for him to get some rest.

Will miss plenty of pre season so think he'll be used up like he was post Feb, some starts and then on the bench for a bit.

he only has 2 years left on his contract doesnt he?

You mean we have two more years of speculating that City are just waiting for the contract to expire before taking him back? Can't wait.

We're seemingly basing our DMC on how he plays when we have the ball as opposed to what the other lot do when they have it, thats why I think deano likes Luiz more than Nakamba

Phillips would have been huge for us

That's said looking at England there's currently a DMC touted as a £50m signing for the likes of Chelsea who I personally don't think is a good on the ball midfielder, certainly not better than Luiz

The "jack of all trades" isn't correct, we need a player who can do both jobs on both sides of the ball, with it and without it... So does every team in world football... I don't know who that player is if I'm honest, as good as Luiz on the ball, as good as Nakamba off it (or preferably better at both...)

Anguissa at Fulham is a great tackler a good dribbler and has good pass accuracy. Maybe he could be the one

For all the talk of replacing Luiz, his stats compared to both Bissouma and Anguissa are pretty much similar in all the key areas. We massively underestimate and under appreciate what a player we have here.

Which key areas are you referring to?

He's not far off, he just seemed to have declined a tad post covid outbreak, if he can get back to the trajectory he was on before then he will hopefully get there.

Luiz is part of the new breed of DM who rely less on physical attributes and are more technically minded. Days of players like Jedi in the top flight will become a distant memory ad the role continues to evolve.

Starting tonight for Brazil (match on BBC red button in 10 minutes).

Fabinho of Liverpool also starting so he'll be playing as an 8 again.

Thanks Chris, sorry no more likes. I've just posted same in copa thread, hope he has a great game.

We need a specialist dm.

Not a Jack of all trades master of none

Thanks Nostradamus, remember a lot of supporters on this site bagging a few French players  6-7 years back, who ended up all being very good players in their own right. They just needed time and patience, not punchlines.

City buyback clause expired June 6th. He's fully a Villa player now
