Evidently Grealish's best position is not in the centre. He looks twice the player in his current role.

No that's not evident. What us evident is that when played in the middle alongside another attack minded midfielder leaves us exposed, and forced him further back. If he had license to roam in the centre of the park like he does on left he can be even more effective. Problem is our wingers haven't really been cutting it.

I think Grealish is effective in a number of roles, which is fantastic.

Luiz is definitely a DLP for me, and give him a bit of license to get forward and he can be a real threat around the top of the box.

He drops deep on his own volition. He has said multiple times he sees himself as a number 8 so it's no surprise that when he played in the centre he does number 8 things like dropping very deep to receive the ball from defenders, spending a lot of time closing down and getting stuck in etc. Also because of how good he is, whenever he drops deep to get the ball from defenders it has the effect of dropping everyone deep as they look to get closer to him to receive the ball. It just doesn't work optimally.

Grealish's best skills are best suited to a number 10 role, in modern football this can often be achieved by playing players like this as an inside forward, this is how he is being deployed now and we're getting the very best out of him. It's pretty much a shut case at this stage as to where he should play and the proof is in his performances.

El Ghazi playing fantastically and Trezeguet scores every time he starts... our issues are not going forward, whatever people say about our front three. They are that we are conceding too many goals. Whether Grealish plays in the middle or wide doesn’t fix that.

This is true if you look at the numbers, at least it was a few weeks ago.

We were relegation candidates going by goals conceded and European placed on goals scored.

I think it's lapses in concentration and focus that have cost us most. As well as not having smoothed out the liabilities in our general approach and game plans.

Recently they have done well in numbers but for me they give the ball away or run down blind alleys a lot. They have been 5 or 6 out of 10 mostly rather than 6 or 7 out of 10 ideally. We play with attacking intent. We commit our fullbacks forward, we have only one defensive minded midfielder, our centre backs play with the ball, not just defend it. We should be scoring goals. But we need to control the ball better and have more possession. Our wingers are too profligate with possession and so has McGinn been lately

There was a really quick pace to that game yesterday. Loose touch and you probably lost the ball.

It worked in Luiz's favour nicely and forced him to speed his game up a bit. He's only looked ropey in very easy moments when he's coasting along thinking it's easy because he's so talented. If he can keep that quicker pace he'll be a huge player for us. Really good performance when be came on.

Moves the ball so much quicker than Conor it's ridiculous. Conor needs to take at least 2 touches before he releases it and if one of those 2 touched are off, he's never getting it back. Against the better teams you don't have that kind of time. We need to make every touch and pass count. It's exactly why he doesn't start these games. Dougie just drove that point home. Conor can have no complaints now. He's quite simply outmatched.

Just rewatched the replay of Heaton's save for Willian's free kick. I hadn't realised how well he had done to follow up and get ahead of his man. A relatively small detail but it's the sort of thing we usually don't do well. I suspect if he hadn't been on the pitch we would have lost 3-1.

He needs to work on his concistency. Apart from that I think we have one of the most talented midfielders outside the top 6 and apart from Grealish. Who we coincidentially also have. :)
