Douglas Luiz

We've won the two games that Hourihane has started, in which he also got an assist, got a goal, had another goal unfairly disallowed and also won a penalty. For me he can count himself very unfortunate to have been dropped. Much more likely to score with him on the teamsheet, and people say that we're weaker in defensively in midfield with him playing, but it's not as if Luiz great defensively either, as despite being labelled a 'DM' that's not really his true position.

Though Norwich and Brighton can't really be compared to Man C. I think it was right to start Luiz. I think Hourihane would have been overrun even more, I also think he has a tendancy to creep in to his shell and not take responsibility when we are put under pressure. Luiz I think lacks some discipline defensively but is very good in the one on one battles and over all better defensively. For me most of all he is very comfortable on the ball and a better passer. Against the top teams we desperately need players who can help us keep the ball.

Having said that I think Luiz had an ok game, at times he showed his skill but I would have expected even more from him. He got called up to the full Brazil team this week and I would have expected him to be on level or even on top of the Man C players at times. Perhaps he is better suited to the holding midfielder role, today he was asked to play to the left of the mid three.

What's his true position then? :D

Congrats to Douglas Luiz is first call up to Brazil and it is our first Brazillian call up ever - It is very odd to call up for 2 or 3 starter for us to earn this call up, there have plenty Brazilian players is good DM and CM ahead him.

it is might because he play in premiership is higher level other club and he prove them able play and great performance vs Best Team in Europe. I'm often proud of see our team player call up to their country in Big Tournament (World cup | Continental cup "ie Euro cup") rather pointless I hate this friendly international match.

I'm reckon this is work permit due international call up, it would trigger Man City come back for him soon as they know can play him in summer '20.

I was think:- if we play these 3 midfield suitable for match, which i glad smith get good DM priorty, marvellous and Luis to bring good balance and big upgrade over Jednik and Whelan, Luiz is huge future star, if he play like yesterday and keep these form go on.. it is same apply to marvellous.

bottom 6-8 (OR) Team like dig deep and defence, less threat attack and we dominate them possession all over them.
Luis and McGinn, Houriance,  (Sub Marvellous to protect the lead if we got 1-0 or 2-0 after 50-60 mins if our creative force or forward is tired - which occasions reason we often got goal against us due fitness)

middle table 14th to 8/7th (OR) Team like quiet good attack football, quiet good defence but we control possession more than opponent.
marvellous and Houriance, McGinn (with Luiz sub and play him 50-60 mins with inject energy and will wear them with fresh legs)

top 6/7th (OR) team like possession and push us deep, attack us regular, and we able possession in occasion also threat them.
luiz and marvelous, McGinn ( Sub Hourinace. we need find Set-Piece Specialist in this team - yesterday was proof that we lack set piece threat without houriance )

Very pleased he started and he keeps that place for me now. Luiz - Nakamba - McGinn is a very good midfield 3 imo.

Also have to say that the idea of we lose something from set pieces when Hourihane doesn't play is quite frankly rubbish, we've done bugger all from them all season with or without him on the pitch.

Hourihane just isn’t anywhere near Premier League quality. For me, he struggled in The Championship. Our strongest midfield 3 is Luiz-Nakamba-McGinn as it showed yesterday with Grealish on the left of the front and Trezeguet on the right of the front 3 with Wesley up front

Rubbish, Hourihane in last 2 and a half seasons probably contributed to more goals and assists than anybody in our squad

Not to mention El Ghazi better than Trezeguet

Personally I thought Luiz bossed it tonight, some great touches, excellent passes. Best player on the pitch for me, commentator on my stream seemed to agree too!

Did you not see their goal?

Wasn't the only time he was pushed off the ball. Was clear the ref wasn't calling 50-50s and Luiz was the only man in the stadium to not notice.
