villabromsgrove Posted July 12, 2019 Share Posted July 12, 2019 Man City have just signed Rodri for 62.8 million pounds to play in Fernandhino's position, and Rodri is just 23 years old. He could be first choice as DM for years. Man C may be under a transfer embargo next season due to alleged past FFP infringements. Douglas is a damned good player who will only get better. He has the ability, as his player of the tournament award recently in the Toulon Tournament demonstrates, and he must be a leader on the pitch because he captains the Brazil U23 team. They get their guy sorted with a work permit and we get a very good player for a season that doesn’t effect FFP as we’ll be selling him at a profit. If he isn’t that good I doubt us or them would be going to the trouble. Either way £15m is a reasonable risk at today’s prices. Aside from the business side, it’s good to know that Pep rates our coaching set up highly enough to continue the development of the player. I reckon Man City will set a modest buy-back amount, and if we try to push for higher they can just walk away and offer the same deal to any other 10th-20th team in the league, which would be our loss. Although you want to know you have certainly over the ownership of your players, there’s a strong business case here. Man City are likely selling him at a very reasonable price because this transfer will enable him to get a work permit...all City can do with him is loan him again to Girona or similar as he can’t get a work permit for them. This transfer should give him enough points for that. The result is city get to see him in the premier league, make a profit on him overall if he never goes back. However if he excels they can buy him back for the first team with no permit issues. For us, if they do that we get a couple years of service (most likely) and make a profit on the deal. For me the success of the transfer comes down to whether or not the buy back clause is high enough to allow us to adequately source a replacement down the line if the market continues to inflate, and avoid a situation where he is just being bought for resale.
