£7m for him looks to be a great buy again by Smith, looks a snip, he’s a great defender, he’s strong in the air and make no mistake, he can play. He can tackle and read the game, he’ll be playing for Belgium soon if he carries on like this. Engels and Mings are already a great partnership for me, don’t forget Ezri Konsa and Kortney Hause too, we have strength in depth at centre back and in central defensive midfield with Nakamba and Luiz

An absolutely superb signing. Mingels partnership gives us a realistic chance of staying up with scrappy 1-0s.

Great again tonight.  So unhurried and calm on the ball.  Not many better defensive partnerships in the Premier League.

Very calming influence.  Doesn't foul often, but uses his long legs to poke the ball away time and time again.

Not without his mistakes, a couple of passes went astray, and he's not quick so if they get behind he can't recover as well as Mings, but he's been pound for pound our best signing of the summer, by far.

He can't be far off a senior call up for Belgium. They are a bit like Dad's Army in central defence, especially now Kompany has retired and Vermaelen has moved to the Japanese league.

Started off a bit sloppy last night with passes but got back to his usual self in the second, made some fantastic tackles and read the game very well. He reminds me of Mellberg so much.

No worries at the back if him , Mings and Heaton stay fit.

They were still calling up Dereik Boyata fairly recently. I had to check if he was still on Man. City books.
