Absolutely superb. Him and Mings were excellent.

Quality performance and will only get better the more games he plays with Mings.

Shows you don't always need blistering pace to be a good defender.  McGrath and Laursen could read the game especially well, and this guy seems to be on the same page.   Very promising debut and will hopefully form a very good partnership with Mings.

My MOM today from us. Closely followed by Mings and Heaton who I thought were also both excellent.

I agree with you, but McGrath and Laursen had pace.

Man of the match for me, looked assured under pressure.

Keep going with these performances and I can see comparisons with John Terry.

Not "blistering" pace though, which most pundits, fans are obsessed with nowadays.  If you read the game well it goes a very long way.

He played great but turned sideways for the last goal. Not saying it would have made a difference but who knows? Otherwise, it was a very inspiring show from him.

There's something very comforting about having two pure quality centre backs and keeper. Goals against us will be thoroughly earned this season.

He is quality. He and Mings, if they stay fit, are tailor made for the premier league

Based on today, and also the fact I'm half drunk, I'm calling POTS. The guy looks quality.

Great debut in a 3-1 loss. Go figure.

Echoing what everyone has said. Him/Mings/Heaton did really well.

Excellent debut. Looked really comfortable at this level. Very happy with him next to Mings. They won’t face much tougher tests this season than they did today.

The bizarre clearance where he hooked the ball out of the air over his head and away was excellent. Good debut and not much he could have more.

Him and Mings together were so good. Throw in Heaton and we are going to shut out more than a few teams this season.  Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Engels played that killer ball that put Trezeguet clean through in the first half.  All in all a great debut.

really glad he has taken his pre season form in to the Prem and showed he's the real deal.

If this match was a genuine showing of his ability, the Mings/Engels partnership is going to be really class/important for us, then add Heaton behind them and thats a really strong defensive core.

Agreed, ore season can be a false barometer, but he certainly looks every bit a PL player.
