A simple enough task of making sure Mitrovic didn't get any free headers, he did that very well. As others have said himself and Mings are starting to look like one of the strongest pairings in the league.

No easy task dealing with countless lumps into the box towards Mitrovic. He dealt with them all pretty much. Either Mitrovic was off balance due to their tussles and headered off target or weakly on target and the rest of the time Konsa was heading the ball away. Mitrovic had to foul to get a way in.

Ezri has improved steadily but the least 10 games or so has jumped levels considerably from a decent starting point. What a fine, balanced partnership we have and both with years to mature further.

Mitrovic is on form and Ezri dominated him.....his reading of the game is getting better too....His determination to keep clean sheets is infectious throughout the team.

This boy is getting better, game by game......has a huge career ahead of him.

possibly Deans Best signing from another club.

Good to see the Guardian publishing more positive Villa content.

Under Smith, Tyrone Mings has become an England centre-half. His Villa partner, 22-year-old Ezri Konsa, is developing so much that Smith thinks he could be next on to the international stage. “Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings are a future England pairing, it’s certainly a blossoming relationship,” he says.

Konsa was one of the club’s less‑trumpeted signings last season, when Villa paid £12m to bring him from Smith’s previous club, Brentford. He plays with a discreet efficiency that can go unnoticed.

“That’s what you want from a centre-back,” says Smith. “Look at the best centre-back this club has ever had, Paul McGrath. He was just very, very good and very effective. The less you see of players like that in a game, the better they’re doing.

“I’ve just seen continual improvement from [Konsa] and a desire to get better. He certainly has the potential to be an England player. Nothing fazes him.”

Interesting how they say " It's little about formations, more about individuals getting stonger for the team" ......personally I agree.

Formations are something that change with the dynamics of the game anyway.

They just mean we didn’t change formation to improve our defensive performance, we were in the same 4-3-3 as before lockdown. But yes that does add weight to your view of attitude/hard work/knowing your own role being vital.
