Tom Heaton

fans on the Burnley forum are saying they should demand 10/15/20m for Heaton......at 33 years old.

The transfer market is cuckoo.....(and expectations of value)

Wasn't that Joe Hart in the video?

Also, I don't know any Burnley fans, nor do I know anybody that knows any.

Where do you find them?

how good is he?, what are his strengths and weaknesses?

Excellent reflexes, commands his six yard box well and can organise a back 4.

He does pick up injuries though but then that will give Jed some games in premier league.

If we can get him for £7m-10m and Stoke won't accept any bid for Butland of under £25m, then I can see why we would move onto Heaton.

If as I suspect Burnley will want more than that, then moving from our original target looks increasingly less appealing, with each extra million Burnley ask for.

I've got a mate who's a Burnley fan. I've just messaged him about Heaton.

you might notice the chance at 3min 44sec, is Targett crossing in a nasty ball :)

Slightly worried that he palms pretty much every one of these back into his area as a loose ball...

Why?

He was out injured for a year and at 33 it’s questionable he is his old self

he’s also prone to staying on his line which tends to get exposed by teams

Burnley's form significantly improved when he replaced Hart, half way through the season. More than adequate for the next season or 2 whilst we strengthen heavier in more urgent areas and are then in a position to spunk big money in a proper long term fix.

It's 50/50 I think in that video? And I think all the ones where he palms it back into the box are the harder close range saves where he didn't have much option. Maybe question him a bit on the Eriksen save. All the other saves are incredible.

Numberwang time!

During the 19 games Heaton was in goal, in terms of conceding, Burnley were closer to Champions League chasing teams then they were to relegation candidates -

Man City 8

Liverpool 15

Everton 17

Spurs 21

Newcastle 22

Man Utd, Chelsea 23

Wolves 24

Arsenal, Leicester 26

Burnley, West Ham 27

Palace 28

Southampton 30

Cardiff 31

Watford 32

Brighton 33

Bournemouth 37

Fulham 38

Huddersfield 42

For comparison purposes, in the 19 games Heaton didn’t play, Burnley were ranked 19th for goals conceded, conceding 41 - 2 fewer than Fulham. The next worst was Cardiff with 38.

Just for a further comparison, West Ham, who Burnley matched in the second half of the season with 27 goals conceded, had 28 goals in the against column during the first half of the season. So while West Ham were fairly consistent throughout, Burnley noticeably improved defensively in the second half of the season.

Heaton is a decent goalkeeper. For 8m or less its not poor business. Some positions are going to need experience. This is obviously one Smith wants experience in.

It's a little uninspiring but it's fine. He'll be alright for a few seasons. He's not going to set the world alight but we won't be exposed with him. It's ok.

Can't have 20m players or inexperienced unknown players from abroad everywhere
