I still think we should wait for a season or two until we start planning on expanding Villa Park in any way.

I'm sure that the planning is already underway. Construction projects on a large scale might require a few years to complete, especially with so many specialists tied up with HS2.

If anyone at the clubs reads this post I’m a chartered planner and would love to work with the club on any future projects!

Attendance rises at Villa are usually temporary, although I think this time it's on a different level. If the attendances remain at capacity for the entire season and into next season then I would then begin putting plans into action.

We've seen it in the past where people turn up to Villa Park when the good times are there, but with a string of poor performances the empty seats start creeping back in.

I think we now have a competent board who will make decisions based on the best interest of the club in the long term. Imagine we had pulled down the North Stand this Summer and were currently playing games with 3/4 of the stadium whilst the new stand went up; in our first season back this would really change the atmosphere on match day and most likely hinder the performances on the pitch.

I wonder if construction might work a bit like the new main stand at Liverpool.  They built behind it and kept the old stand in use for as long as possible and then finished the job in the close season.

Where has this info come from that we have 8k members and a huge waiting list for s/t? Is there any proof of this?

Season tickets - from people who were put on the season ticket waiting list.

Members - the speed at which tickets are all sold out when they are only available to members.

I smell at rat when game vs Liverpool gets sold out by members.  These scousers seem to always find ways to get tickets in home ends. Listen out for Scouse accents and get them removed from the ground.

a few maybe, but certainly not the 100s that you used to get in the home stands. i just think it's a popular game. sat 3pm vs a good team...it was always going to draw a crowd

All the other home games only had around 1-2k tickets go on sale to non-members.

Ive got 6 memberships for my family and so far only used 3-4 in any one match.

This match was the first where I’ve used all 6 memberships to buy 6 tickets.  None of the 6 are Liverpool supporters.

Anecdotal I know, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a decent chunk of members are Villa fans but only plan to attend games against the ‘top 6’.

All those who said it would be pointless extending Villa Park.  Imagine if we start to really fly.  It's going to be impossible to get tickets.  We would easily sell 55,000 if we had a couple of years of real success.

Yeah it's getting to the point where I have to buy a second membership for my missus so she can come with me.

If we stay up and demand continues like this won't be long until an extension

Is your missus the bird in your profile picture and if so, which part of the ground do you normally sit in? ;)

I can see us extending the ground in near future with notice on Villa Village now. How we do it I don't know but would still guess at just a bigger and more modern North Stand.

One caution I would say, I was up for extending the ground to 50k + in 2009 when we were finishing top 6, had young exciting squad and manager and our average crowd wasn't far off what it is now.

All it took then for owner to start losing interest and manager quitting and things fell apart pretty spectacularly, imagine how bad it would've been having a 50k stadium in the championship.

Looking at Man. City I think they extended their ground from 48k to 56 wit the extra tier behind the goal 5-6 years after the takeover. Liverpool was also a similar timeline as Fenway came in 2010 and they started work on extending main stand in 2015.

I think 4-5 years is decent length to make sure the people in charge really are in it for the long haul and hopefully by then you'd have seen real inprovement on the pitch.

Whilst it's natural to look back at that period for comparison at the same time they're somewhat incomparable.

Even then, we weren't selling out for the likes of Brighton, Burnley etc, there was no waiting list for season tickets and you did not have to be a member to have a realistic shot at getting a matchday ticket.

As others have said, if we can maintain forward momentum as a club over the next 2 years it could set us up nicely for a sustained period of good times, everything seems to be moving in the right direction on and off the pitch, hell - even the womens team are smashing it by all accounts.

Our sponsorship deals are moving in the right way, we have players being lauded (Mings, Grealish, McGinn in particular) left, right and centre, we are a rolling good time story right now all ends up.

We have to capitalise on it and keep capitalising on it for as I say, 2-3 years then see where we're at but I'd love to see us increase the size of VP - we could do it without losing any of the character of the ground too, I don't think many would honestly miss the North Stand if it was taken down and rebuilt (versus missing the old Trinity Road for example) and if we could wrap it into the Trinity Road stand we could probably increase capacity by 5-10 thousand I'd guess.......

What a time to be alive.
