As the saying goes, "that's more like it". The new formation and shape helped, but as an individual he was far more up for it, played with more intensity, moved that bit better which firstly created his first chance, which he probably should have done better with and then his second chance, which he scored from. Very impressed with the one-two with Grealish for the first goal. Very impressed with the ball he played in the build up for the second goal.

The question is whether he can do this consistently, we still very clearly need another forward but this was much better today. I really hope the injury isn't serious and it's just a knock.

Don’t know why, but I will humour you.

His stats from today we’re below is average for passing, pass completion and shit touch (4 today, 2.4 is his average) - those are facts. He covered the same amount of ground as he normally does (factoring in less minutes).

The reason he looked better as we set up and played to his strengths, Jack close to him (but also Nakamba/Luiz further forward), we didn’t hit high balls up to him to control, we hit his feet and put stuff on the deck.  Our wide play was better, as we had options inside to move ball forward quicker.

Did you not watch the game? Kodjia was a liability. The thing with replacing Wesley, it had to be with someone who is better. As Keinan is unfit and As Delphino123 isn’t registered to play there wasn’t any better options.

What's that got go to do with the previous 12 games?

We were playing poorly and wes didn't score in 12 games and you think people should hang their head in shame because they wanted to try something different?

I mean, that's just stupid.

That would be a shame if true, who knows if this could've been a formation that really suited him. Let's hope it's not too serious

On a serious note, I was so happy for the lad. (Loudest i've shouted for a while)

Then gutted about the injury ffs.

REALLY hope it's not as bad as it looked.

He was actually good ALL round today, no matter how badly his detractors may want to deny it.

Was good defensively, and heading balls out of our goal mouth as well.

Great movement and passes up front.

Good chest down control and shot for his goal.

Did EVERYTHING some have claimed he was incapable of.

I'm hoping this also put the bed the myth about the players "not trusting him", or having "Cliques".

There was a togetherness today and the players looked happy for him.

Today's game completely diminishes those posts previously were people claimed he was good and performing well.

Because today he actually did play well and a rare occurrence he did a lot of things well. Completely different to most performances.

Don't really care for your cherry picking of the data. Two stats which carry far more weight than the ones you presented are (1) he scored a goal and (2) he made a key pass in the lead up to the second goal. Moreover the eyeball test demonstrated a much better performance. Not saying he was great by any stretch of the imagination however it was a clear improvement on his previous 13 appearances. Which is the point I was making. Your point, that he was essentially doing the same as he always has is borderline delusional.

Him and Jack worked really well today.  Would love to see him play with another striker as a front two because his connecting play can be so good.  His first touch is awful sometimes.  A fast pacey striker to play off him and working with Jack could work really well for us.

Agreed his touch is terrible at sometimes, but I genuinely feel that is something which can be improved with time and experience.

Definitely has shown that he has alot of positive qualities which can be unlocked though.

Why? Did we get loads of brilliant results in the last 12 games wesley didn't score?

It was understandable fans wanted smith to give Kodija a chance as it just wasn’t working. What I hated was the abuse Smith got over it.  He is partly responsible for us starting the season so light up front  so I’m not defending him. I just understand why he doesn’t want to play Kodija. Awful lazy player.

Mate I genuinely don't think people (myself included) have EVER claimed he was performing well.

We would say "Today was one of his better games", or " he was decent today", or "Worked hard today" " He has zero support, showed glimpses of what is possible when he is played in etc" or .

And this would upset you, and others. lol

If that knee specialist can diagnose ACL and MCL injuries from watching on the TV what's the point in hospital's? We should do away with the NHS and just Whattsapp this bloke photos 😋

3 attempts on goal. 2 on target and 1 goal.

While his passing was a bit off at times I thought his good passes were better than normal today. 2nd goal a prime example.

The idea that this performance was the same as always is nonsense.

Doesn't upset me. Just don't get it. It was the same with Scott Hogan and I never understood that either.

He's been awful and on a few occasions been good. Today being one of them

It was making a comparison between Wesley and Kodjia. I wasn’t seriously demanding people should hang their heads in shame.

Honestly the way the defender came through his planted leg I would lean towards some kind of knee injury. He didn't look like he was in to much distress so hopefully just precautionary. At least that's what I'm telling myself to feel better.

Difference is back up my claims with facts, you just spout your hatred of all players, presume Trez will get all your attention this week. I have seen all the games with my mark 1 eyeball - he scored a goal not out of nothing but out of progressive build up play (something we have hardly done), and key passes in lead up is the same, can only make a key pass or score if you have decent ball in decent territory. Only a small percentage can on a regular basis make things out of nothing.
