They had Man City rattled for 45 minutes, countered them effectively, had a brilliant chance to take the lead and should have had a penalty before the first goal. At 2-0 they had a decent opportunity to pull one back. Man City took off because Watford continued to chase the game rather than trying simply to keep the score down, and because Gomes. That's not to take away from City's brilliance, but Watford turned up. Villa, did not. Which was my point.

Imagine the scenes if that Villa team played this Man City team. There wouldn't be enough space on the score board for all the goals.

Demitri_C
I'd rather not get to a final if we were to get spanked 6-0.
PaulC
Yes whats the point. Everybody is so excited after their win against wolves but then you have to play Man City and you know you have zero chance. Wolves would have given them a much better game.

For midtable teams like Watford, Bournemouth (or us if we get there) getting over 40 points and having a cup run is as good as your season can get. I doubt any Watford fan is disappointed by their season this year. The problem is the gap between the Champions League teams and everyone else means we would just be fighting for 7th if we did ever get re-established in the premier league. sne
Rather be fighting for 7th (or 15th) in the PL than fighting for 6th in the Championship

Zatman
Rather be top 6 championship every year than bottom 6 in top flight which we did for 5 miserable seasons

Must admit, it's a similar story to be a permanent 'bottom 6 club', of course less pressure on owners to inject cash due to TV revenues but the 'losing your best players and replacing with inferior ones' tends to still apply at that 'level'. Yeah, true. But a bottom PL club can offer wages and attract players a Championship club (unless Mendes) simply can not. And the financial part is huge. Can't imagine our owners will be happy sitting around just putting money into the club for it to float around in lower division football. What would be the point? The_Rev
There isn't one. What people are saying is that they prefer winning to losing but if you are winning in the championship then you go up. If you don't go up then funds get cut, players leave and you turn into a club who are mid table also rans in the Championship instead. Just look at Sheffield Wednesday, or Nottingham Forest.
