Popular Post John
On Easter Monday (13.00 kick-off), we welcome The Lions of Millwall to Villa Park. A win would take us up to 75 points, which would in my opinion, all but ensure our qualification for the play-offs with 2 games remaining. It would also give us 10 consecutive league wins for the first time and our longest winning run since 1897, when we clocked up a club record 11. That run comprised of 9 league wins, an FA Cup Final win and a FA Cup semi-final win. It was also spread over two seasons. Our visitors won’t make it easy for us, they never do. They need points themselves to avoid possible relegation, currently being 3 points ahead of Rotherham, with a game in hand. We last beat The Lions at Villa Park in 1990 (twice, once in the League Cup), although we have only played them once at home since then, drawing 0-0 last season. They have made a habit of beating us on our visits to them, having won each of the 7 games we have played at The Den since our 3-1 win there in 1975. Overall, we have won 7 and have drawn 7 of the 21 league games that there have been between the two clubs. Including cup games, this gives us 14 wins and 10 draws from the 34 meetings that there have been between the clubs. It’s high time we recorded our first win against them in 29 years. We do not want to end our winning run just yet. I would rather like it to continue for another 6 matches. Just win it for us Villa!

mottaloo
I don't want to be a moody malcolm here but i don't feel confident about this one. I don't care if we hammer them 8-0, or if it's an edgy 1-0 win.......three points is all that matters now. It's just that we're playing the small heath of the south and that puts me on edge. KJT123
I think we have to freshen things up - don't want to hit burnout for the play-offs. Davis in for Tammy. Green for Adomah. Hourihane/Lansbury for Whelan. Jedinak/Hause for Axel if not fit.

Herman22
I think a bit of rotation is required here. We need McGinn and Grealish fresh for the playoffs I’d put Hourihane, Davis, Green and Lansbury in the starting line up. There is talk Chester is getting back towards fitness. But if Tuanzebe is out Jedi needs to start.
Popular Post Brumstopdogs
Personally, I'd worry about rotating when we're safely in the play offs. IMO we need to go all out to win this one with our best team and we shouldn't take Millwall lightly as they should be well up for this.
MaVilla
Really this game is probably the most important of the 3 games left. If we win this one we are in a really good place going in to last two games against strong opposition, it will also but massive pressure on Bristol, Derby and Boro to win all their remaining games with zero slip ups. If we lose or draw this one we will put a lot of pressure on ourselves to need results against Leeds and Norwich. We can't have any complacency in this game, it's a big one. Jareth Posted April 21, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted April 21, 2019 Hate to say it, as it seems complacent, but I can only see another win given our respective places in the league and goals scored/conceded, and then also our form, and also the fact that every part of the team is playing good football. Thought those Fulham fans last season were too cocky, but on reflection they had every reason to feel confident having gone on a run like ours. No matter a question of daring to believe, I do believe.

StewieGriffin
If this was a 3pm kick off Id be suggesting some rotation here (as I think changing it up against Leeds and/or Norwich might give us a damaging heavy defeat), but this is the early kick off. Get the 3 points by hammering them and pile the pressure on the 3 below us to have to go win all their games to catch us.

How about we actually confirm our place in the playoffs, before we start worrying about resting players?
