Also surely against the rules of the Europa League for another team to step in and play the second leg.  Were Sparta busy last week for the 1st leg?

Ajax slaughtering evil empire after evil empire. I'd love to see them win it because their squad is going to be torn to pieces over the next couple of transfer windows.

They're like Monaco two seasons back.

Wierd feeling though if Spurs get through they'd beat Ajax over two legs.

Spurs in a high pressure game. Maybe not

Would expect either Man City or Spurs to beat them over two legs but you never know.  Just seems now its all set for a final for a final between Pep and his former club.  Would expect Liverpool to finish off Porto and they will be stiffer opposition for Barcelona than Man U were.

Ajax have eliminated Real Madrid by winning in Madrid and eliminated Juventus by winning in Turin.  You'd have to say they are as good as anybody left in the competition right now and have a real shot of winning it.

Why are the keepers constantly made to play out? Ten mins in here at Watford and both keepers have had kicks blocked, because of overplaying. One resulting in a goal.

More often than not the team retains possession if they play out from the back as opposed to conceding it if they go long. It's probably still viewed as a net positive for the team even if the keeper is made to look foolish from time to time, I mean we don't really get to see how many times teams concede from a turnover in possession after hoofing it.

Fwiw AJAX is considered the evil empire in Holland.

Vacuuming up every young talent for free from other teams academies as soon as they show any glimpse of talent.

They've been doing it for 40-50 years.

But I do enjoy seeing them this season. Hope they win it. They wont thou.

the team marc overmars built...

it was rumoured arsenal went for him after the ex Dortmund guy left, they were also rumoured to have gone for monchi or whatever his name is, got neither, would say overmars and whoever their head of youth development is would be hot property

Head of youth development at Ajax has to be one of the easiest jobs in the world. System has been set up for so long and everybody at the clubs knows what to do for about 60 years

Moving to another club they would need to design the entire structure

Cruyff brought the AJAX model to Barca and helped reform La Masia.

Barca owe everything to him and AJAX.

Masia is a poor imitation in fairness, except an unbelievable generation they havent really produced a top player since 2008 except maybe Thiago
