That felt as good as three points can. It wasn’t a pretty game of football, but I’m proud to support the team that tried to play football, and the club with non-neanderthal fans.

They tried to make it about anything other than playing football and, to be fair, did a good job of it for long periods, with good help from the ref (not to mention their moronic, inbred fans.) Every once in a while, though, we showed glimpses of quality, and created what little there was in terms of chances before the break. All in all, they will have been more pleased than us to go in level. Second half was much of the same, really, save Jack’s brilliant winner.

It got nervous at the end, as you would expect, but in the end there was no doubt in my mind we deserved the win. Both for karma reasons, and on balance of play.

I’m not going to get carried away about our play off chances, but I’m certainly more excited about our season than I was eight days ago.

Class.

Jack Grealish is a player with class, he has that silky touch, the sway, the vision and ability to do things that other players can't. He's also rapidly shaping up to be a young man with class - character, calm determination, the ability to inspire and to lead and to not lose his head when other are. There is much to be proud of for him today.

Our opposition showed a complete lack of anything resembling class, from the idiot running on to throw a punch at a player, the thousands applauding him for it, the steward trying to stamp on a players ankles, a manager and a club statement so desperate to say "individual" and "throw the book at him" but so lacking in taking any kind of responsibility for their own supporters or arrangements, right through to the sad angry youngster posting pictures of a grave. They're a shocking club, with shocking support, that have shamed the name of this city for a long time. It's not an isolated incident, it's not one idiot, it's the culture of the club, their ethos and it's time they were properly punished.

We were second best for large parts of the game, we didn't play at all well, we got it tactically wrong for most of the game and heck, we even rode our luck at the end - but we didn't sacrifice our dignity or our class - we didn't lower ourselves to their level. I hope we never will.

0-1 is not the extent of our victory.

Couldn’t agree more. I would like to add that it isn’t just off the pitch that they are thugs. Kleftbeld’s foul on Grealish was clearly planned and he should been showed a red.

There is precedent here. We played a European Cup game at Villa Park against Besiktas behind closed doors in 1982, after a squaddie invaded the pitch and sat down in the penalty box during our semi final at Anderlecht.

I thought that.  He did the exact same thing at Villa Park.

Horrible bastards.

Actually I’m really sorry I tried to be all calm and collected and classy and rising above it.

but **** it. I hate them all. I hope their club goes into liquidation and I hope St Adrews gets turned into a landfill and I hope all of them have wonky tables at restaurants for the rest of their lives.

Eddie Hearn is aready in talks with the pitch invader to fight Joshua at Wembley before AJ fights Wilder or Fury.

Gene Wilder still owes me money, and Nick Fury is a little bitch that doesn't know when to shut his mouth.

Went with Mings motm but grealish equally deserving. Ref was good I thought today for a change for the usua championship standard. If we’re nit picking the quality of our passing and forward play was pretty poor overall but I thought we managed the game well, toughed out the first half and then began to grow into the game and take over in the second. Great to see us ride out the last ten minutes with guts and abit of luck and let’s hope that as other players come back we’ll go on a run. With jack in the team we can beat anyone. Mention for mcginn too, that ability to  hold men off and to bite into a tackle and win balls he’s not favourite to win is just so satisfying to watch! My work colleague (who supports villa but doesn’t really like football much) said the other day, “blues fans really are just a lower standard of human” - pretty much summed it up there

Poor game, but I didn't expect much more anyway. Glad it's over. And that we won. Again. Perfect that Grealish was the one who scored the winner. Mings is a giant. A part of me wish that he, Hausse and Tammy could've reached that.... thing before anyone got between them. And Whelan too. Great win. Now, please EFL do football a favour and put that "club" in the bin so no football fan have to get near that place again and tear sty down to the ground. We don't want any humans to socialise with them anymore. In fact, that would be favour to the whole mankind. Cheers.

The steward is not getting as much notice (as far as I can tell). But should be getting more.  He’s sober, he’s employed to do a job to keep people safe.  He should be fired and also banned for life.

The league should ban St. Andrews for use in derby matches for 3 years.  The toad fans need to realize they are harming their own club.

"Only boneheads entertain serious doubts nowadays about the link between social and economic conditions and football violence, but why is it that, say, Birmingham City fans have a markedly worse reputation than Sunderland fans? Even if we accept, for the sake of argument, that the West Midlands suffers from the same kind of social and economic deprivation that plagues the North-East, then how does one explain the impeccable behaviour of the Villa supporters?" (Nick Hornby, "Fever Pitch", 1992)

Billboards X 1,  anyone know how much for a week? (Small heath can't be that much ?,  needs to be a high one so they cant get to it)

It will get on the bbc news I suspect and is slightly more charismatic than sneaking up tpo people frpom behind and trying to chin them 😄and we can have www.villatalk.com at the bottom and get loads of advertising money from small heaths with internet and all the journos.

Perfect timing but needs tpo be this week ideally.  Shows a nice ying and yang of the 2nd city so too speak.

Just an idea.

I think the answer to this is Sunderland only has one club so the fans will reflect the entire city rather than only certain areas.

Edit: Also villa has supporters from the whole of the midlands. Birmingham fans are from an area of Birmingham and that’s about it. It’s tribal almost.

I'd chip thirty notes in for that.

Grealish MotM for his goal, what it means to him, and especially for his conduct under such provocative circumstances. I cannot say for certain whether I could have done that.

The subs seemed to make a big impact for us in terms of our approach and paid big rewards in the end. I have Smith 'good,' and I thought the ref was pretty average. Could have given them a penalty, and maybe could have done something nuclear with that challenge on Grealish so early.

All told, a good weekend... a payday Friday... England win the rah-rah... Villa win under tricky circumstances and a nice cheeky polish of the rocket to finish. For once, feels great to be me.
