So Berahino charged with drunk driving over the week.

Not that he'd be playing anyway, but still.

Exclusive: Stoke explore prospect of sacking Saido Berahino after drink-driving arrest

Stoke have exiled Saido Berahino from Nathan Jones's first-team and are exploring the prospect of potentially sacking the striker after his latest off-field controversy.

Berahino is facing the exit and is now training on his own at the Clayton Wood training ground as Stoke adopt a tough stance on the 25-year-old’s arrest on suspicion of drink-driving.

The former England under-21 international was charged with the offence on Tuesday and is due to appear in court on March 6, in another storm which has left Stoke furious.

Stoke suspended Berahino on Tuesday and though he has now returned to training, the club are in discussions with their lawyers over their next move and the possibility of sacking the striker cannot be ruled out, after a number of indiscretions.

The Professional Footballers' Association are involved in discussions and while sacking Berahino would be an extreme action, a decision on Stoke's position is expected next week.

He is also set to be fined up to two week’s wages – around £80,000 – if found to have broken the club’s code of conduct which was redrafted at the start of this season.

Jones is understood to be fuming of the Berahino incident after promising him a clean slate when he was appointed in January.

Berahino was taken into custody in London in the early hours of Monday morning after allegedly speeding away from a restaurant.

He had also missed two days of training last week which ensured he was left out of Jones’s matchday squad for the game at Ipswich.

A £12m signing from West Bromwich Albion in January 2017, Berahino had shown signs of progress under former manager Gary Rowett but this latest controversy places his future at the club in serious doubt. He has scored five goals in 26 appearances for the Potters this season.

Jones will address the issue at his press conference on Friday afternoon, ahead of the home game against Aston Villa.

It's the start of a 4-game mini-midlands run.

Just win.  By hook or by crook.  Stop the rot and let's see if we can't use the motivation of some local( and some local-ish) derbies* to our advantage.

* There was a season in the Premier League (can't remember which one now...) where Stoke City were our closest opponent, and therefore our 'derby' for that season

I think we'll win. Stoke are rubbish themselves and well, we have to win soon.

They are indeed as bad as us, problem is they do still have a midfield available.

Hadn’t noticed that little quirk, but wouldn’t last week have been the start of the 5 game mini-midlands run?

Can’t remember the Stoke “derby” season, slightly surprised there was only one though. Think it’s been mentioned before on here that one season Sheff Utd were the “derby” in MON’s first season.

As for tomorrow, dunno, a draw maybe.

Careful there, we'll probably end up signing him if he becomes free

I'm expecting nothing from this game

So we're going to win 4-0

Hard to see anything but a loss here really.

Its the championship so anything could happen. Lose heavily here and Dean will be walking on egg shells with both the fans and the board I imagine. He's got to show us something sooner or later, just a glimmer of hope that he knows how to fix this problem and that the players are actually buying into what he's bringing to the table.

i think you will find the board will back him. Promotion not essential this season.

The best thing about the next 4 games is not that they are derbies - but 3 of them are away from the venomous bucket of bile that passes for VP these days (apparently)

Now that the promotion chase is over, I hope we start to see the players who are leaving in the summer phased out. The pre-pre-season starts now.

The replacements are out on loan or not yet purchased, so not sure there will be much change until the summer.

I don't think so. No matter what, he will, I think, get a summer window and a dozen games next season.

Whether that will turn out to be a good decision - who knows.

I think I'd try:

---------------------------------------Kalinic---------------------------------------

---------------Elphick-------------Mings-----------Hause-----------------

Elmohamady---------Whelan--------Jedinak-----------------Hutton

----------------------------------------Ramsey----------------------------------

---------------------------Abraham-----------Davis--------------------------

Which I think would be a little unfair on Ramsey and would still lose.

I think Hutton would thrive in this position. But I do love him and want his children
