IMO Konsa is the better footballer, but we would find it harder to replace Mings and his missing presence would be felt more within the team and squad due to his leadership qualities and communication skills.

Mings is a big ole unit don't underestimate that at Centre back....he does have a dominating factor about his game, its crucial in that role....sure he has an error in him, so do others who don't get so easily noticed.

if you have a team full of footballers and no mongrels, you might find an imbalance or a soft under belly.....footballers are great and ability has to be had, but in some positions a bit of muscle is equally as required...centre back is one.

Yes, screw England, getting him back fit is better for us.

Just need a couple of Argentinians to get straight reds for Argentina somehow whilst in Croatia so they get banned by FIFA for a few games.

Couple of times tonight Maguire strolled forward with the ball and misplaced it.  Commentator said something like England won't mind that because of the attacking play it brings.

I just thought if Mings did the exact same thing he would be crucified.

there was one in about the 70th minute where he ran with the ball from defence all the way to the edge of their box had absolutely nothing on so played a hospital ball to shaw who lost it, the interesting thing when he flies forward is the opposition rarely close him down, they let him do it but then go tight on his options so he hasn't got any, the commentator creams himself but its actually easy "make him do something" defending because they know he wont do anything

its all flash and no bang

and thats before you look at both the fact that mings is blatantly under instruction from southgate to be so deep and to play it simple whereas maguire isnt and then also the roles of phillips and rice and need for both of them if maguire has the freedom to do that, maguire pushing forward isnt brilliant if it simply results in rice dropping in to his position, it negates it as an attacking element or at best it simply bypasses the central midfield because they dont push up with him he runs past them

He's better than that though. We see this mostly as our style calls for him to pass down the channels for Watkins to run onto. Yes, he's no Franz beckenbauer but there

are easily called-upon memories of his decent passing that have contributed directly to goals - diagonal long ball at Wednesday for Green to run on and cut back to equalise in a game we went on to win 3-1, down the wing and great ball across into the box for Trezeguet to score at home v Fulham last season (again to equalise in a game we go on to win 3-1.). Actually, bit of a pattern there...

I think it was the Palace game he missed last season and the defence was all over the place with distribution and organisation

Its like when Hutton used to have the right flank all to himself as the opposition knew he would rarely hurt you

Yep

that goal came to my mind straight away, no one really tackles him do they? he just runs between 2 midfielders whilst the 3rd stands and stares followed by a bad case of "make him do something" defending he does it for him showing hutton so blatantly on to his right foot that he's got nowhere else to go but his left, if the defender stepped up and made  hutton pick a pass the reality is that he cant because there isnt one and at the same time he's not going to skin him, not sure who the midfielder is that steps out of his way rather than pushing up the pitch in front of him offering an out ball

take away what that goal actually means to us as villa fans and its a proper horrific goal, you'd be angry at under 8s conceding that

thats the majority of maguires runs up the pitch, the defender steps up, nothing on, go back or sideways

Needs to go. Cost us the game today. Makes us lose 9-12 points a season on his own. Captains are supposed to lead by example. Fraud

Couldn’t even make it through the rest of the game before the irrational slating began.
