Villa Park Atmosphere

Having followed us since my first game in 76/77 Royal Antwerp at home - I will share this, in my view villa park atmosphere has always been hit and mis - why ? I have no idea. Sometimes the atmosphere is amazing and others totally lacklustre.

Maybe size of the ground might be a factor whereby " singers" are spread too thinly and maybe stop bothering?

Yep, definitely a problem sometimes that the ground is "too big for the match". Similar problems at Sunderland and Sheff Wed. I think also we're a club that went from years of being a mid-table Premier League side to now three years of being basically a mid-table / play-offs Championship side. When was the last time a league match really meant anything? Maybe when we stayed up narrowly under Lambert. Even the season we got relegated it was hardly a nailbiting, touch-and-go thing. Before that I suppose the season when MON nearly got us into the Champions League was great for the fans. But most of the time it's just been the slow drip, drip, drip of mid-table mediocrity for YEARS. I can't think of any other club that has experienced this total lack of rollercoaster excitement over such a long period. Anyway, tonight should be a decent game for the neutral... fingers crossed a decent one for us too.

When they've paid thousands to sit through dross like this for the better part of ten years, it's no surprise.

I don't know if our season ticket holders deserve  applause, or to be referred to their local mental health specialists.

I left early mostly because of the toxic atmosphere tonight and look where that got me. In fairness it got me home and drying and warm with a cat on my lap an hour earlier so not all bad. The constant shouts of ‘forward’ and the glee that seems to be taken in jeering our own players is something else. We’ve had new players, managers, owners, coaches, scouts, probably new tea ladies and everything else too. The only things we haven’t changed are the fans and the mascot. I suggest we kill off Hercules in a half time gladiatoral contest next week. If it’s still the same then we should buy new fans.

I'm. Sorry guys I left early 79th minute. I've never l eft so early in my life. But the performance upto that point was garbage. There was no effort passion or anything so why should I sit in the freezing cold to the end and then have to wait probably 60 minutes to get the train home ??

I let my emotions take over an do walked out. A lot of people left as soon as that 3rd wnet in and I can't blame them. It was pathetic performance for 80 minutes

Sheffield were in good voice and so were we, I thought we were in for a good game and atmosphere until it kicked off and we completed about 3 passes in 15 minutes.

Team gave us nothing until the last 10 and they didn't deserve to be applauded off tbfh.

Do not blame anyone for leaving after that first 80. Shocking.

Now, if you could leave every other game to guarantee us some points please.

You could be looking at this the wrong way Dem and you could be our lucky omen. You just need to rock up to games, show your face for 30 seconds then piss off so we can bang 3 goals in.

Now over 1000 Villa games and never ever left early. I like to get my monies worth. Tonight paid, big time. Cracking atmosphere generated by those who stayed.

Right, be honest. Have you ever seen a worse left back than Neil Taylor?

A little bit of “Green headed home the equaliser after the Villa fans had gone home” comment in the press and a bit of holier than thou “that’s why you don’t leave early” spiel.

Can’t really blame people for leaving early last night. Three down and ten minutes left to play? I’d like to know which clubs would have retained all their support, especially considering the recent run we’ve been on.

Agreed that the atmosphere wasn’t great last night, but the sub par performance played a huge part in that. I think this happens at most grounds; I was at Camp Nou last week, Barca were 0-2 down, and there was jeering by the fans went passed went astray. Even second half at 2-2, when Barca lost the ball there were exasperated shouts at some of the players.
