Jon Parkin talked about it once on a podcast when he joined Cardiff. Had no intention of staying in Cardiff.

Fair shout. Just a very bizarre signing wasn’t he? Pursued for over a year, and never really fancied by management. Probably an overlap of the Suso regime.

We were first interested in 15/16. Long before Suso and even before we got relegated. He wasn't granted a work permit during that window if I remember correctly. Only for that he would have been signed in January 16. That still doesn't make it any less bizarre though. More, if anything.

Do you remember Berson? We spent all summer trying to sign him and then DOL hardly played him at all.

It was pretty clear from seeing Berson play that the reason it took all summer to sign him was the person responsible for his signature had no eyes.

When I was in Croatia a few years back, I was told there that Kalinic had injured his elbow when he first arrived and couldn’t fully recover. Does seem odd how badly he has become and thought of when he was an international.

The Split club also received ideal material for the captain, a local boy who is a great link with the fans and who can bring a dose of stability to the defense. One part of the fans very quickly turned to the phenomenon of burying players, which necessarily follows the phase of great euphoria, and Kalinic was among the first to be the target of criticism, but also of uncritical spitting. The truth is, as always, somewhere in the middle. Lovre Kalinic is not a world-class goalkeeper, but he is far from ignorant. He is a guy who was good enough to at least briefly take over a unit in the national team and a goalkeeper who in the not-so-distant past was one of the best in Belgium. Finally, this is a man who was given a salary of around two million euros by a serious and big club like Aston Villa. But precisely because he is of better quality than what he shows and because Hajduk brought him to make a difference, Kalinic has a great responsibility to wake up and help this team.

At the moment, his status in the national team is also very questionable. Livaković replaced him on Croatia's goal after several bad games and pushed him to "position number two", but currently Dalic has at least five goalkeepers who defend more convincingly and better than Kalinic. I didn't realise till a quick glance yesterday just how many we have out on loan this season. It's going to be a very bloated squad if we can't shift a lot of players.

From what I recall, we signed him but recalled Steer at same time due to Nyland's injury.

DS put him in v Wigan, wasn't quite Nyland bad but unconvincing and was average in games after. 

Odd thing to me is he was in v West Brom, misjudged that header that looped in from edge of the box and then was apparently subbed at half time due to concussion. Was on the bench next week v Stoke though when you need 7 days off if you have head injury.

Something dosen't add up, perhaps there was a row at half time in that match and we know DS goes cold on players if they don't agree with his ways e.g. Engels. Or DS just simply thought Steer was better and played him for the run in which paid off big time.

We needed an experienced keeper for prem so signing Heaton made sense. Really thought Kalinic should've got a chance after that though instead of Nyland but then we signed Reina....

Seems like an endless failed love triangle with all the keepers we had around that period!
