Vincenzo
Came across as very confident and very ambitious. Wants to be judged on his qualities as a coach not a fan. Positive times ahead I feel UTV!
Popular Post avfc1982am
After 3plus years away from VT and my own bullshit to deal with I felt this was a good time to to post my own thoughts on the new era we are about to embark on. Firstly on the appointment of Smith I rang a close friend who has close dealings with Smith through football and coaching over a long time. I asked my friend who is also a pro coach what he thought of the appointment."Excellent appointment, even more so that Kelly is joining him". He also mentioned that JT was currently doing his A licence although did mention that his attendance wasn't the greatest. We put this down to the fact that his own playing career has only just ended and that focuses tend to switch when new challenges appear. What he did also mention which I believe is widely known but cannot be understated is that JT in the eyes of many top coaches has always be destined to reach the top at whatever he does, such is his understanding and knowledge but more importantly his football ethics. He mentioned to me when JT was a kid at Chelsea that he would one day be an England captain. Unfortunately I never did put dough on it lol. After listening to the presser, what I found interesting was Smith referring to the fact his relationship with JT isn't new. Meaning that not only did Smith want JT but also JT wanted to work with Smith. This blows away the bs theory that JT was thrusted on Smith. I really believe for the first time in a long long time we have a progressive team in place. A hands on Head Coach, a thoughtful and honest CEO who is also invested in the club. More importantly though, owners who are are winners in what they focus on. They will not allow the club to be run like the Mickey Mouse set up that we have had to endure for so long. Personally I'm gutted I won't be there on Saturday as I am currently chillaxing in Phuket(life can be so tough a times). I celebrated my own birthday yesterday while most were celebrating the dawn of a new era. Happy days and a big cheers to all positive Villans out there. Authoritative is the right word. He knows what he's about, and totally believes in himself. As someone else said, none of this bigging up the opposition, sounding out caution. A more positive mindset from the start can only convert to a more positive set of players on the pitch. "let's go beat this lot" instead of "this lot could cause us problems but let's hope we're there or thereabouts after 90 minutes." Stevo985 Posted October 16, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 16, 2018 I'm excited by this appointment and I'm fully behind it. I'm not getting carried away by the presser and interviews though. It's the stuff we hear from every manager. If we'd appointed Allardyce we'd be hearing the same stuff. I like that he's a villa fan though. Should mean he understands the club. And I'm confident he'll do a good job as long as we're setting the club up to work to his strengths. Either way I'm feeling a lot better about this season now and I'm very much looking forward to the next game.
villa89
He came across well in the presser but it's results on the pitch and the style of football that counts. Get the best out of the talent he has at his disposal and we'll be up there in the top two (*or thereabouts )

John
I thought that the press were trying to suggest that he might not have wanted to work alongside JT during the conference. Trust them to look to find a negative in this.

bannedfromHandV
Intrigued to see what, if any noticeable changes have been implemented in our 'style' on Saturday, I'm not expecting much but hoping to see some sort of positive tweak.

sne
At most 3 RB's at a time would be a nice change.
Popular Post Johnnyp
Seen a few picture's of today's training. Great to see cal o'hare involved. Question, they had these white and orange plastic things placed strategically all over the training ground. What's all that about. Never seen that before at bodymor heath. Wanna cut that nonsense out and start putting their boots on and rolling their sleeves up. 3

Yes, what can you work on in a few days? I think he said he only had 13 players to work with on the first day the rest were away with the internationals. Possibly some simple work on a shape on and off the ball for a bit every day and the rest would be technical and some specific preparation for how Swansea play. Maybe even that is too much to cram into a few days really adn a lot will depend on how quick on the uptake some of our players are.

I think game management for me is what im intrigued about more than style over next week or so. 3 games in 6 days. Smith has shown at Brentford that he is not afraid to make wholesale changes, even to a winning team. The Norwich fixture will be interesting. We have been dominated there the last 3 or 4 times we've went there.

If they were wearing bibs as well, it was definitely him. 1

I don't imagine it will be anything other than the players being a bit more motivated than before because of the new manager. Less than a week is no time at all to implement anything significant. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we do see anything though.

Just interested to see if the shackles come off, assuming there were shackles to begin with, what kind of state of mind Grealish plays in and whether we attempt to control possession more. 1

So much of the football we played under Bruce was purely reactive football. Slow start. Let them dictate. Go a goal down . Start playing. The play-off final summed us up perfectly. If nothing else on Saturday, be nice to see a plan from minute 1-90. But look he's had 13 players in training the last 2 days. Horrible time/fixture list to take over. Will take time but he's definetely the right man.
Mazrim
The players will have to adapt to new methods, such as the manager actually being there, tactics and... stuff.
