Popular Post Indigo Posted March 22, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) I'm as disappointed as anyone with our run at the moment, but it's no wonder some people have this farfetched idea that they aren't "allowed" an opinion or to criticse Smith when their idea of it is thinking it's a valid take to say we should have had top 6 sewn up. We've spent large parts of the season above a Chelsea side who could literally field two separate starting XIs better than our strongest, and that's without even getting into the teams we'd then have to overtake to manage it. I appreciate we were great at the start of the season and it was fun to get a bit carried away but c'mon. I think the pocket of the table we're in is about our level at the moment, and with Jack particularly on form we can punch above our weight as we have done, but you need more in order to consistently put it together over the course of an entire season. Mid-table-ish teams go through runs like this so it's important to not get too carried away until it becomes more than just a poor run, and the break has come for us at a good time for us to hopefully reset and wake up for the final stretch of the season. Would still be delighted to finish between 9th-11th personally, would represent a better than expected campaign overall and give us a platform to once again improve in the summer and put up a more realistic fight against the better sides next time out. I'm of course concerned by our current run of form but I think there's been a bizarre overreaction from some sects of the fan base that have come as a consequence of overreacting to how good we were perceived to be earlier in the season. I hope he keeps the same team with Sanson in the middle with mcGinn and Luiz and then Jack and Traore on the wings with Ollie upfront. It's our current best first XI and I'm hoping Jack gives the lift back to the team and we beat Fulham. Worried about attracting players. We finished 17th and look at the signings we made. Spurs were interested in Watkins but wouldn't pay the price, Sheff U wanted Cash and there's no way I believe Barkley and Martinez, didn't have interest from teams that finished higher than us. The prize money thing is fairly small in the long term picture and certainly won't have a major impact on us. And the worry about Jack is hardly spot on. He will stay if we finish top half and leave if we don't? We've been worried about Jack leaving for years. He's one of the best players in the league, the idea he's future will be determined by finishing 8th or 13th is highly unlikely. He's signed a massive contract, we're hardly going to sell him on the cheap because we finished 13th. There was nothing but doom and gloom for the sake of a moan. I dont understand your suggestions especially around bringing the kids in.
