I've been wondering about this as well, if it would be less disruption. Have Grealish in the midfield three, but with a freer role, and have Davis and Samatta up top. Hope that the former can stay fit and the latter can get headers and knock-downs. This formation has the advantage of dropping both El Ghazi and Trezeguet, who are way off form and testing everybody's patience, and it might work even better when McGinn is back (we would then only have to pick one from Drinkwater, Luiz and Nakamba which would also be nice).

Yes I've a feeling of this to, but it needs to happen and quickly, I just hope Smith can see that sometimes when you havnt the tools you can't do things the way you'd like and have to change the way in which the job is done. Who's fault is it that he doesnt have the tools? No pace in the team, average players at best purchased. I cant help but feel that Trezeguet was purchased because of our owner. He really is very poor for the money. Also we have to scout further than the Belgium league. Its destroying us. Its the bloody Belgium league, its not even in the top 10 in Europe. The Championship is miles better. You shop in the Bargin shops you are going to get tat for the most part. You shop in the Bargin shops you are going to get tat for the most part. Is it not? Genuine question, I mean based on official coefficients. Just checked, it's 8th. This is based on performances in UEFA competitions so there is no objective way of measuring it against the Championship. From the site: The association club coefficients are based on the results of each association's clubs in the five previous UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League seasons. The rankings determine the number of places allocated to an association (country) in forthcoming UEFA club competition. I think if you stick a Championship team (or Villa for that matter) in the qualifiers for the Champions League, I don't think they're getting in. I think you have hugely overrated the Championship. Better than the Italian and Portuguese leagues? Or maybe the list is not ordered in any particular way. According to UEFA the Belgian league is ranked 8th in Europe higher than the Dutch and Ukrainian leagues which are on your list. It is based on performance in European competitions so it's hard to judge the Championship in comparison to the top leagues in each country. Well put it this way, if you gave me the pick of the top 11 championship players over the top 11 Belgium league players, i would choose the championship.

Why? Who would you pick at centre half from the Championship that is better than say Vincent Kompany? Belgium have a fairly strong national side and all those players start out in that league normally. I don't watch the Belgian league at all but they have teams in the Champions League (Europe's premier club competition and they acquit themselves relatively well). I can't say I could pick a Championship team that would come through the qualifiers. Hell, stick the best "Championship 11" in the qualifiers and I don't think they'd come through it. Belgian clubs (not the best 11 from the league) achieve this regularly. Your choice might purely be based on familiarity with the Championship but there's no evidence to support that it's better than the Belgian League. It is purely subjective. You also had the German second division in your list. I live in Germany and see the odd cup game with a second division side on TV and they're a million miles away from Genk or Club Brugge. Just because ours didn't hit the ground running doesn't mean the entire league is shite.

Last summer was about buying quantity with an impact to quality, this summer if we stay up will be quality over quantity. We had to do it this way to have a squad for the PL and we knew it would mean fighting a relegation battle this season, surely we all knew that would happen? If we had brought real quality then our squad wouldve been so thin and that wouldve been even more dangerous....we saw that re our strikers when Wes and Davis were injured and Kodjia had given up.....imagine that, if we had brought quality, in both our midfield and defence. We've had Mings, Wes, McGinn, Heaton as big injuries this season which is bad enough, imagine that in a much smaller squad, it wouldve been more of disaster.
