Keener window-cleaner
I think we will need to be patient with Dean Smith and give him time. Implementing a new playing style will take time. We have many good kick and run players but not so many intelligent passers who suits a passing style. Grealish and McGinn will cut it and Abraham looks like he can play a bit. Tuanzebe, Bree and Chester may fit. The rest I'm unsure of. Would love to see younger players moulded in to a system. I'm not expecting a quick fix and don't excpect us to go up, but I have big hopes for next season and the future! And yes I'm still over the moon over this decision!!!!
KMitch
After all the other names we were linked to in the past 48 hours, I’m not going to lie, I was a bit deflated to hear the news that it’s Smith. I’ve only ever heard things about him that were posted here on VT, so my perceptions are a bit skewed. That said, I logged on to a Brentford forum to see what they’re saying about the news and they sound like we all did when Milner left. 90% of the posts were overwhelmingly positive, talking about how he was one of their best ever managers, knew this was bound to happen eventually, and wishing him the best. The other 10% called him a c***, don’t understand why he joined us because we “have no money”, and hope Villa are relegated as retribution. I’ve heard over and over again by VTers that Brentford fans couldn’t be bothered by Smith and don’t think he’s the reason why they’ve been successful recently. That doesn’t appear to be the case at all over on their forums. Anyway, welcome and good luck, mate! Not a flashy foreign name, but he’s one of us!
Popular Post markavfc40
Over the moon with this. Known to be an excellent training ground coach who gets his team playing attacking on the front foot possesion based football. Big step up for him but I am sure he will grasp it with both hands. He has the same relative success with us as he has had with Brentford we'll laughing all the way back to the Premier League and some. Welcome Dean.

Wasn't my first choice (Lambert was a similarly attack-minded up and coming manager and look what happened there) but it's good that we appear to be putting a structure in place. Really pleased about Terry being involved as well. I've not posted for what seems like millennia, but thought, WTF. Lambert is an interesting comparison. He had a torrid time of it whilst trying to play football with some 'experimental' signings (Benteke being one). We took some absolute hammerings but he still stuck by his principles and towards the end of the season it started to pay dividends and we were starting to dominate teams and get results. When the new season started, even clearing in the woods-faced Adrian Durham made us his dark horse to do well because of our strong Finish to the previous season. Then it all went to shit. We just went back to percentage hoofball, for no apparent explicable reason apart from Lambert losing his nerve??? I like this appointment. Smith knows the league and he plays the way we NEED to play in this league. If you have better players, press the hell out of the opposition and keep the ball. Just hope he sticks to his guns!!! I can go back into cryonic suspension now. 7
Mark Albrighton Posted October 10, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 10, 2018 (edited) Ultimately I’m happy we have a people in position well in advance of the next game. I won’t pretend I’m over the moon ecstatic, but that’s mainly because apart from the times we’ve failed to beat Brentford, I’ve not seen a Dean Smith side play. If people on here are saying he’s more or less the polar opposite of Bruce in terms of playing style, then overall I’m caustiously pleased. Im guessing he might feel he gets a demotion with Terry now the assistant. I don’t think O Kelly is Smith’s assistant at Brentford.

DevonIsAPlaceOnEarth
I wanted Smith from the moment Bruce left. I have a feeling we may be on to a winner here. Hope the rest of his staff are inbound too
Demitri_C
He has some bloody exciting attacking players to work with. Hogan he knows about but he has kodjia and Tammy also. None of this defensive inviting pressure on us garbage that we had under bruce. It's going to take time but this could be a real exciting management team. Bet grealish is delighted jt is back

Stevo985 Posted October 10, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 10, 2018 Very interesting appointment. Wouldn't have been my first choice because I have reservations as to how effective he'll be away from the Brentford setup. But fully behind him and excited. Welcome Dean. Players will be encouraged to play, expected to play, and coached to play. The only cause for any concern in my view is whether he is up to the size of the task ( which he may well be). If you add in the return of JT ( worth his weight in gold in my view) I’d say you are right to be pleased.
