That was my last chance to play for Aston Villa. OK, I'm 64, I haven't played football for about 20 years, and I was utterly crap when I did. But I WAS a right back... Have you ever considered converting to a centre back? I mean... it’s never too late. Can you head a ball, like really far?!
Vive_La_Villa
Probably means nothing but Interesting how he said the decision to pick the team will comes from the three of them. I’m sure Bruce once made it clear the final decision of the team is always his. Difference in character and ego maybe?
Popular Post GeordieVillan
Strangely my favourite bit was when he said something along the lines of “I’ve made mistakes as a manager, and I will make more mistakes in future, and the reason for that is that I take decisions, and you can’t take decisions without making some mistakes”. We need this. A manager that isn’t afraid of making mistakes, that will make decisions and try to attack games, and not play it safe. And to back it up he actually has a consistent style of play, which is what separates him from Lambert and Sherwood in recent years. I hope we as fans give him time.

I thought he said the three would be involved in everything including team selection, but once he decides the team that is their collective decision. I wasn't sure at the time if he was saying he would consult but make the final decision, or suggesting they would do it collectively and he was just one of the three, but it came across to me more as the former. But I don't recall him being completely clear on that point.

It just seemed like he is very open to ideas whereas from Bruce it always felt like he was stubborn with his ways and wanted to make it clear he was the main man. Then again I suppose as the manager he was.
Ginko
I like him and I particularly liked how he played down the fact he was a fan as a kid. Yes it’s a nice story with a tinge of romance but what we need right now is a professional who has a plan and can get to work, and that’s exactly the impression I got from him in the press conference and the interview on the OS. We’ve needed this sort of appointment for the longest time now and what particularly fills me with hope is that it goes further than a change of manager. We have a plan in place and a brand of football we’re aiming for. I hope Smith works out and I think he will, but it’s comforting to know that even if he were to go we have identified a system we want to adopt which makes the process of filling that role that much more focused. This also means the necessary changes can occur but the core philosophy remains the same and trickles all the way down from the first team through to the schoolboys. Much better than the aimless appointments of god knows how long now. It may take some time but I think Smith was absolutely the correct choice and I think he’ll be good for us. Demitri_C
My initial thoughts... Firstly great JT wasnt there its all about smith and we didn't need a circus and fuss over JT. He is one of his assistants. That's as a great move by the club. If this was under via no question JT would have been there and it would have been a mess. On to smith I thought be came across excellently. Seemed humble and talked sense. None of this promotion specialist garbage like we were promised with bruce. He spuhonest nds like he had ideas and was very honest. Sounds like he has ideas and plans and didn't try to downgrade us in any way. Very impressed. I really hope he succeeds

Relaxed and confident without being cocky, appreciative and respectful, ambitious but realistic. Looks at home. Good start. THIS, doesn't seem overwhelmed. Popular Post Rugeley Villa
First game for Bruce was against local rivals Wolves. The game attracted a very modest crowd of 32500. The sold out signs will go up in the next few days, and Dean Smith will walk out to a Villa Park crowd of 42000, and that’s with us making another dreadful start to the season. The fans are behind this one I would say.
villan-scott Posted October 15, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 15, 2018 Absolutely delighted with this. His interviews today have been nothing short of faultless. Not full of cliches and the usual bs. Very confident, modest and motivated. He acknowledges he will be learning all the time, which is something I haven’t heard from a Villa manager in a long time. A really refreshing change of tact and direction from the new Head Coach. Roll on Saturday.

villan-scott Posted October 15, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 15, 2018 I loved these words on Smiffy. It certainly feels like we’ve got a good one. I can’t wait to see his style of play implemented here.

Vive_La_Villa
Seems a nice guy. Be a shame if people ever turn on him. I’m quietly confident he will succeed. Never got that vibe from Bruce. I always felt he thought he was Mourinho or something.
ferguson1
Haven't listened to the interview yet, but what's happened to the "Villa engine"? From the comments on here this evening it all sounds very positive. Onwards and upwards.

villanmac
I liked how business-like he was. He wasn’t interested in any of the dream come true / massive club / should be in the premier league bollocks, he just came across as determined and focused on the task in front of him. The impression I got was of a nice guy who doesn’t stand for any f**king around. Edited October 15, 2018 by villanmac
