In the second half yes. First half was two very well organized teams going head to head so I would say a toss up there. Second half though yeah we were very good. As the cherry on top you can see we have a lot of room to improve as well. Good day to be a villa fan. edit: sorry if repost but some folks may have missed it. This is what we've all been crying out for. Now that isn't always going to work, there will be times when we conceed chasing more goals, but I'd confidently predict that his philosophy will win us many more points than it loses. And it's infinitely more enjoyable to watch. We are going places with this bloke. I'm just back from the game. I just couldn't believe he bought on Hogan for Tammy with minutes remaining although was 3-0 up! How many other manager's do that! #Legend

Popular Post terrytini
Much to be pleased about. Not least, and I’ve not really seen it mentioned much, is that only 2 sides have conceded FEWER goals than us (3) since Smith ( and JT ?) arrived. Thats an absolutely brilliant turn around from where we were, and with the attacking talent we have puts us right in contention. Particularly as 4 of his 5 games have been against the sides at 1, 2, 3 and 6 in the Form Table ( with us at 5 and our next opponents at 4). Just shows there’s many ways of improving a defence.....not least going at the opposition rather than inviting them on. Surely you could have sat back and played it safe? Why take the risk?" " My philosophy is this : 1-0, 2-0 or 5-0 up: never ever settle for it, you must be hungry for more. If you do sit back not only are you inviting the opposition to get back into the game but you are showing them mercy. You have to look at the bigger picture, I don't only want us to destroy our current opponent's. I want to breed fear into our next ones " YES YES YES! Exactly this! The last minutes of a game isn't just the the end of that game, it's also the start of the preperation for the next game. Sitting back defending a lead will stick into the mind of the players who and they will carry that mentality with them to the next game. It's as much for the next game as for the current that we should keep on playing. FINALLY a manager who thinks the same. I loved it when he was announced but he is better than the already high hopes I had, better than in my wildest dreams even! 6

Nice to see us approach away games not to just nick a point but to boss the game and go for all three!

Sounds good but this approach didn't work for Wenger in his last 10 seasons at Arsenal though, did it? Look how many titles Mourinho has won by being defensive after taking the lead. Of the top of my head, i can think of maybe 3/4 occasions in the last 20yrs (Chelsea and A Madrid) where super defensive teams have achieved real success. It will get you there or there abouts but generally a super defensive approach won't bring real sucsuccess in modern day football.
