For some reason and I dont know why but Smith seems to be generally disliked by opposition fans

That's strange. Most non Villa fans  I know like him as he is the local lad living the dream. As soon as we become a threat to the big boys they may dislike him!

It has been difficult for Smith in terms of time coaching the team. He was right that the lock down is the longest time he has had with the players without any matches in coaching them.

He came in mid season in October in the Championship in which you play so many games, and that was right up to late May for the play offs.

Then he had barely a two month break in which there was a large turnover of players.

Now it is going to be even shorter, 6 weeks with more players changes.

Also wanted to note, with an ineffective attack it puts more pressure on the defence n causes our better players such as Jack to fall back, not great when the ball keeps coming back & invites pressure from the opposing team...

Jack wins a hell of a lot (record breaking in fact 😆) of fouls & free kicks which we really should be taking advantage of.

As well as strengthening in attack, we really need to take make the most of set pieces. We have some big lads who should really be getting goals from corners too.

I would like to Jack removed from free kicks & corners as I don’t think it’s one of his strengths. We need a specialist (who can also play).

We can really improve with the right signings now and attack is the priority, maybe Deano will be able to makes us much more of an attacking force then and there will be less reliance on Jack (who can be even more effective).

I agree, considering the size of some of our players it's actually shocking we aren't more of a threat from corners and free kicks. It definitely needs working on, and a dead ball specialist would be a good step in the right direction on that.

and some Villa fans it seems....

Nobody here "dislikes" Dean Smith.

This is a petty way of having a dig at people who have criticised some of his management if we are being honest.

I've not seen ONE fan intimate to not liking him as a person.

Being critical does not equate with dislike. Speaking for myself, I have been critical, but I like the guy, and of course he is also a fellow Villa fan.

Did I disliked as a person, I said disliked.....you can surely see the semantic difference?

From early in his Villa career some haven’t liked Dean Smith before even the slide we had pre lockdown.

Some people think there is an agenda which there clearly isn't.

Some fans doesn't think he is good enough to take us where we need to be. That's it. It's nothing personal.

I don’t think anybody thinks there is an agenda....I’m not sure what an agenda would achieve given we are on a fans website with no influence really.

Just some fans are always critical of him even when something good has happened, they pick at the minor points.  Yes it can be argued picking at minor points can see improvement but it’s constant bashing of him non-stop.

i know many that do this think they aren’t but they are.  I know this because I do it about Keinan Davis and something somebody said finally clicked in my mind and I went back and reviewed some of my posts.  I will now be backing away because I was always critical even if he did something good.  I still don’t think he’s good enough but I need to stand back and assess a balanced response.  They with many on here including yourself about Smith.  He’s here to stay it seems, bash him for the major things and not everything, in every post, every moment of the day.

It’s a fans forum so post what you like but for me, the bashing he gets is too much, likewise I’m going to stop bashing Keinan so much.  The game is about opinions but people don’t want to hear that opinion 100 times a day.

All i've seen is posters praise him when it's going well and criticizing when it's been bad. It's normal.

Can he take us to the next level and prove his doubters wrong. I hope so, let's see. Nothing would be better.

Disliking Smith as a person and disliking some of his managerial performances are two totally different things, and you did not make it clear that it was the latter you meant.

I can plead guilty to the latter but not the former. Nor have I seen anyone else being guilty of the former.

My bad, sorry! Never thought of disliking the person themselves

Which has been you, since the day he arrived. You have made that vociferously clear. Yet he got us promoted, against the odds, and kept us up, against the odds. Crikey, he may be good enough after all!

I watched the game Sunday with a couple of Wet Spam mates and they wanted us to stay up precisely because of Smith as they thought he was a decent bloke   ... limited sample size obviously

Terry on the other hand .......

There are a lot of people who, whilst things were going badly were very, very critical of Dean Smith. This stance was understandable at the time as results and performances were poor.

Now since lockdown there has been a clear upturn in performances (especially the last 4 games). This is not because he spent his way out of  bad situation...…. but because he coached his way out.

We changed the way we approached games and fixed the problems on the pitch using the tools at our disposal, it really is a good example of a manager being able to use his tactical and coaching skill to get a result

Credit where its due. I cant remember the last manager that changed things for us like this.

Probably bitter Leeds fans after the incident last season. Plus Smith's continual excuses after every game did rile people, myself included, after a bit.
