I would though argue that you don't appoint a guy like Smith if you aren't looking to try and embed a similar structure and culture at the club. That can't all come from Smith but he is a significant factor in it. It's paramount that for us to get the best Dean Smith he must be supported and not let paddle his own canoe . The appointment of the new sporting director is positive. Smith knows the league and he plays the way we NEED to play in this league. If you have better players, press the hell out of the opposition and keep the ball. Just hope he sticks to his guns!!! The only thing I can think of is that around summer 2013 he decided that 12/13 was too close a call and we got hammered too often, so he opted to go for a "safer" style which just got worse and worse. Seem to remember us trying to keep the ball more in his last season, but it was a very negative kind of possession game. Anyway, this is of course a different man under different circumstances, but my optimism is tempered somewhat by what happened with Lambert. He was known for playing attacking football when he came to us, and within 2 and a half years we had become extremely negative. The club did say they wouldn't force coaches on whoever the new manager is so fingers crossed there's a few from Brentford coming across too.
