Last season we drew at home to Preston and lost to Millwall.

However slim the possibility is, if we win the next two we pick 5 points versus last year.

Which still leaves us 2 points behind last season at the same stage....

I saw an article that we were 2 points worse off than last season though Leeds were actually 1 point worse off

Probably as good a place as any, in case some have missed it.

The only number that’s higher in the Villa column is crosses attempted, which is considerably higher (proportionally speaking).

The stats do show, however, that Smith is more than capable of improving the style of play at Villa Park. Since the start of last season Brentford have attempted and completed over 2,000 more passes than Villa. There have been significantly more short passes attempted by Brentford and their average possession is more than five per cent higher.

The Bees have also attempted 220 more shots, had 51 more shots on target and attempted far fewer crosses. These are all points that indicate a better, more exciting brand of football.

I love this. This is exactly what we have been crying out for. A team with our resources and playing squad should be looking to dominate games in this way.

For me, that was the biggest problem with Bruce. He was more suited to being the underdog.

Now we have a manager who was a manager of an ‘underdog’ side but playing like the big dog. Now he can play his style at club with more resources, and better players (on paper!).

Here's a nice stat that I think is correct:  since we've been in the Championship we haven't been doubled by anyone, yeeaaahhhh ! Pretty impressive, I mean what were the chances of that happening?! Well, I hope I've got that correct anyway, I've been trying to monitor it. Is that right, statisticians? However, we have to avoid defeat in all of our last three games to keep it going, yikes! :s

But a stat I like even more is that since we've been in the Championship no-one has beaten us by more than three goals! Improvement. (Well done Mr El Ghazi up at Bramall Lane for preserving that one. Phew!).

And since being in the Championship I think we've conceded more than four goals in only one match: the crazy five at home to the wobbly trees.

Arise, thread, arise.

By my count and from consulting Transfermarkt, so far this season we’ve had 15 different goal scorers in the Premier League.

Watkins, Ramsey, Ings, Coutinho, Cash, McGinn, Buendia, Konsa, Hause, Mings, Luiz, Targett, El Ghazi, Bailey and Chambers.

Having had a quick look, we need one more player from the squad to score to equal our best in the Premier League.

Want to know which season we recorded 16 different scorers in the Premier League/Premiership?

Spoiler

2011/12 - Yes, Alex McLeish’s free flowing football was of course the answer you were all thinking of.

Bent, Gabby, Petrov, Keane, Warnock, N’Zogbia, Albrighton, Weimann, Bannan, Collins, Ireland, Heskey, Dunne, Clark, Herd and Lichaj.
