JAMAICAN-VILLAN
11 minutes ago, wilko154 said: I think people are getting confused with the businesses that NSWE operate in. Wes Edens hasn't personally bid for Morrison's, the bid has been made by Fortress Investment Group which is an investment group of which Edens founded and is now a part of. Although Wes will have part ownership of Morrison's should the deal go through, it's more of a consortium/investment group deal where he will only own a percentage. People often state that Nassef Sawiris owns Adidas. This is the same situation, he acquired a percentage of Adidas through his investment group NNS Holding; there were I believe 3 investors in this deal and they bought major stakes but not all of Adidas. It's obviously great news for us as a club that they are both doing so well though; and if future sponsorship can come in from these businesses then even better, they have the perfect platform for it going forward. I get all of that. However, it still gives them access to a multitude of resources, benefits, assets, cash and leverage. Still a win for us IMO. As you rightly mention, partnerships, marketing and endorsements for one.

Think that's close to the number. It was a distressed asset whose actual value should have been around 300M (what Newcastle is on the market for now). My take is that NSWE's business plan was to invest the 240M or so discount on building the squad and Academy.

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted July 7, 2021 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted July 7, 2021 Wes is a busy boy. Here are some other things he's been up to lately as well as buying Morrisons. He's bought a railway company that moves steel around the US for $640m. https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2021/06/08/2243587/35538/en/Fortress-Transportation-and-Infrastructure-Investors-LLC-Announces-the-Acquisition-of-Transtar-LLC-from-United-States-Steel-Corporation.html Quote NEW YORK, June 08, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC (NYSE:FTAI) (the “Company”) announced today that it has agreed to purchase United States Steel Corporation (“USS”)’s rail operating subsidiary, Transtar, LLC (“Transtar”) for $640 million. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021, subject to customary closing conditions including receipt of certain regulatory approvals. Transtar is comprised of six operating freight railroads connected to USS’s largest production facilities. Of the six railroads, one serves Gary Works, USS’s largest manufacturing plant and one serves Mon Valley Works, USS’s lowest cost facility in the flat-rolled segment. FTAI and USS also agreed to enter into an exclusive strategic rail partnership under which FTAI will provide rail service to USS for an initial term of 15 years with minimum volume commitments for the first five years. That'll probably come in handy for his passenger rail service plan to link Vegas and California, which he's put on hold until 2022. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-21/fortress-pitch-on-las-vegas-passenger-rail-to-wait-until-2022 Quote Fortress Investment Group will wait until 2022 to try again to finance a passenger train to Las Vegas from Southern California with tax-exempt bonds. Its company Brightline Holdings, LLC had planned to go before the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee this year. In January, the state board reserved that portion of California’s limited financing resource in anticipation that the venture would request $200 million of private-activity bonds. Brightline spokesperson Ben Porritt said no size for the bond request next year has been set yet. Which should give him something to celebrate with the product of his very successful vintners operation, Majestic wine. https://www.retailtimes.co.uk/majestic-toasts-record-market-share-and-braces-for-biggest-ever-summer/ Quote Majestic Wine, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, today revealed details of a record breaking trading period over the last 18 months, with some key trends predicted to continue as the world reopens. The retailer has been heavily investing in growth across its store-based business, following its 2019 acquisition by Fortress Investment Group (Fortress), the global investment manager. The strategy, based on a belief in bricks and mortar retailing, is now beginning to bear fruit – with four branch openings, an improved range and a large investment in infrastructure all helping to facilitate an unprecedented period of record growth against supermarket and independent competitors. Perhaps he can celebrate in his new offices: https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2021/06/11/53b-global-investment-firm-confirms.html Quote Multi-billion dollar global investment firm confirms Dallas expansion. Dallas Business Journal reported that the company had been eyeing the area for a new office in February. Now the $53.1 billion global investment manager confirms where its expanded office will be. And hey, if he can't find it, he can use the product of the new GPS firm he's invested in. https://www.wsj.com/articles/next-generation-gps-firm-nextnav-nears-spac-deal-to-go-public-11623294232 Quote NextNav is expected to generate roughly $410 million in cash through the deal from the money held by the SPAC and a private investment in public equity, or PIPE, associated with the merger. PIPE investors in the deal include Koch Strategic Platforms, a subsidiary of Koch Investments Group, and funds managed by Fortress Investment Group. He'll need that to get around the properties he's bought from Colony Capital https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/latest-news-headlines/blackstone-to-buy-qts-realty-in-10b-deal-colony-capital-signs-535m-asset-sale-64947272 Quote Colony Capital Inc. is changing its name to DigitalBridge Group Inc. and its NYSE ticker symbol to DBRG, effective June 22, with the move reflecting the company's transition in recent years away from diversified real estate investments to the digital infrastructure sector. The company also agreed to sell a majority of its other equity and debt portfolio of real estate assets to private equity firm Fortress Investment Group LLC for gross proceeds of $535 million. He certainly doesn't appear be thinking about retirement. In fact he's sold his retirement properties for $1.6bn. https://seniorhousingnews.com/2021/06/21/atria-to-acquire-holiday-retirement-as-welltower-buys-86-properties-for-1-6b/ Quote The seller is private equity giant Fortress Investment Group (NYSE: FIG), which owns Holiday Retirement and the 86 properties now going to Welltower. Atria did not disclose its acquisition price of Holiday Retirement’s management business. Holiday’s management team, including CEO Lilly Donohue, will remain in place. And indeed he'll be able to keep himself in shape having bought himself a physical therapy company for around $90m. https://seekingalpha.com/news/3706958-ati-physical-therapy-and-fortress-value-acquisition-stockholders-approves-merger Quote ATI Physical Therapy and Fortress Value Acquisition Corp. II (FAII +2.2%)announced that stockholders of both the companies approved businesscombination proposal. And he'll need to keep himself in shape if he's going to continue taking on and beating heavy hitters like y'know Apple, in the US courts. https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/06/29/apple-withdraws-from-antitrust-lawsuit-against-fortress-investment-group Quote Apple has pulled out of an antitrust lawsuit against hedge fund Fortress Investment Group, which is accused of using its vast patent holdings to lodge patent claims against tech giants. The Cupertino tech giant recently filed a notice of dismissal with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, leaving co-plaintiff Intel to go it alone against the parent company of serial patent infringement suit filer Uniloc. The move comes about a year and a half after Apple and Intel filed a complaint against Fortress in 2019. Which is quite the achievement, since it seems he has quite a lot of gas. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210706005837/en/New-Fortress-Energy-Secures-LNG-Supply-Through-2027 Quote NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New Fortress Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NFE) (“NFE”) announced today that it has reached an agreement for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply that will cover the remaining volumes for NFE’s existing natural gas and electricity businesses through the end of 2027. “This transaction secures our LNG supply for the next several years across our existing portfolio of terminals and customers,” said Wes Edens, Chairman and CEO of NFE. “With commercial operations expected to begin within days in Mexico and next month in Nicaragua, this will ensure we provide our customers a reliable and affordable supply of cleaner energy. We will look to secure additional volumes later this year ahead of commencing our Brazil operations and as we continue to grow our customer base across all our terminals.” Some of which he'll be passing in Ireland https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/new-fortress-energy-attempts-to-revive-780m-irish-lng-terminal-plan-with-data-centers/ Quote New Fortress Energy attempts to revive $780m Irish LNG terminal plan with data centers Ireland has said no to US fracked natural gas, but NFE says the Shannon terminal could transition to hydrogen. New Fortress Energy, a US natural gas company, has relaunched a bid to build a terminal for gas imports at Shannon Ireland, despite the Irish government's decision not to allow US fracked gas into the country. The gas firm says it is transitioning to hydrogen in the next ten years, and has also promised to site a data center campus at the terminal, which can make use of the massive amount of cooling created when liquefied natural gas is evaporated before piping around the country. The company has been allowed to submit a new proposal for its €650 million ($780m) terminal to An Bord Pleanála, the Irish planning authority. Oh, and as an aside, he also seems to have financed the purchase of another football club (or something, I don't quite understand) anyway, there's Fortress money now in Girondins De Bordeaux https://news.in-24.com/news/82681.html Quote An agreement was reached between Gérard Lopez, the owner King Street and the creditor Fortress for the takeover of the Girondins de Bordeaux. Judicial reorganization is avoided. This time, it’s official, and the Girondins de Bordeaux club can look to the future a little more calmly. Gérard Lopez has reached an agreement with King Street and its main donor Fortress for the acquisition of the Bordeaux club. Now I don't know how much of that he's personally involved with, although he's the figurehead making statements on a lot of those deals, but it paints a picture of a very busy man who has the ability to buy for a dollar and sell for two - and for as long as he's here, I suspect that's a talent that'll come in very handy indeed. 12
