John McGinn

Made of **** granite.

Given some shocking passes today from Hourihane and others.

90/10 against him losing it, steams in with no doubts he's going to win it, and does. Almost injured himself a few times.

Hacked to pieces by Burnley. Officially fouled 4 times, he must have shrugged off another 4 challenges with various wasters hanging off his coattails.

Unbelievable performance.

I think we need to get Jack or Luiz back in next to him. Had no one to pass to half the time with Hourihane running away, desperate to not have the ball because the game was hard.

We should play with Douglas and Marvelous holding, with Jack, John and one other floating behind Wesley and taking up wide positions. We'll be flying soon enough. We're almost there.

I'd be up for it.

But I'd definitely start Keinan next match.

Trez, Grealish & McGinn as a switching three behind him and we could easily beat Norwich.

That's obviously without Taylor starting, we'll lose if he's in the XI.

Putting Jack out wide in that free role was the first step.  Now just have to find the proper midfield combo.  I am 100% with you that Nakamba and Douglas will be 2 in the double pivot.  Playing Jack, John and only one of our wide men also means we don't have as huge of a need to find another wide man in the January window.  We can focus all of our resources on another striker and maybe another midfielder if the right deal shows up.

Agreed. The formation only works if Taylor is not playing lol

Yesterday (and much of the season so far) was so frustrating but have to say more than anything else that this guy has just been phenomenal. He looks...unique in how he goes about it but he's such a great all-rounder and at least right now looks more of a goal threat in the Premier League than he was in the Championship. Bids will start flooding in soon but if we can hang onto him I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on to be regarded one of the best we've seen play for us in this league.

Won't play here next season.

Already outgrown us.

Then people like you will be the same ones moaning that we don't keep our best players.

You grow, and get better, by bullishly keeping players deemed 'Too good for you".

That is how you become good enough!

You make it sound like clubs have a choice.

Hmmm, remember when we were neck to neck with the likes of Everton and Tottenham?

Spot what we did differently.

They kept their best players, and if they sold them, they went for BIG MONEY, and were replaced with one or several young players of quality.

We had a load of shitty clauses and sold ours for relative pittance, and/or replaced them with shite - then got relegated for it.

Clubs in the Premier League DO now have more of a choice. There is a shed load more money, but clubs in general also have a shed load of money.

We just bought Tyrone Mings for 26.5 mill ffs. MCGuire went for 80 mill!

We don't NEED the money, so that reasoning is borderline farcical, unless a player kicks up a strop - and/or you have identified ways you can improve with that money.

It’s a short career.

And when an agent is in your ear saying the elite clubs in Europe want you, unless you have no ambition at all, you’ll want a move.

We don’t need the money. No one is suggesting that we do. However, McGinn doesn’t NEED to play for us. What he does need is to look back on his career and know that he achieved as much as he possibly could have.  This is not something that we can offer in the next few years.

Right now, he could pretty much walk into any team in the league.  And he probably knows it, as does his agent, and as do the elite clubs.

So when Man U come along saying ‘Here’s £80m’, we’re going to have problems.  Not because we’ll be thinking ‘ooooooh, money!’ But because McGinn will say ‘That’s more than fair, you have to let me go.’

You don't need to worry about McGinn ever kicking up a strop. By all accounts, he was pretty desperate for the celtic move to happen (he's a Celtic fan) and found it pretty difficult during that time - he still played out of his skin for us though, helped us progress in Europe and was generally an absolute gent throughout the whole thing. He will always know what Villa have done for him, and he won't act like a spoiled clearing in the woods like so many others do.

Agree with this completely. I'd like to see this team next game if Targett is fit:

..................................Heaton................................

Guilbert.........Engels............Mings...........Targett

.......................Luiz.........Nakamba........................

Trez/AEG........................JM.............................JG

...................................Wesley.................................

As for McGinn, he's the only player from last season who has truly stepped up a gear in this league. Will be absolutely gutted if he left us but it will definitely happen if we go back down.
