Popular Post spineynorman Posted April 8, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted April 8, 2019 Very good game, lot of ebb and flow in both halves, two sides both going for it, despite conditions being pretty poor for a lot of the first half with very heavy swirling rain but it didn't seem to affect the play. Wolves looked an older (I think they must have been on average by a couple of years - the Villa team is largely U19) and physically stronger team with a lot of pace up front and dangerous in the first half but Villa tried to pass it about and probably the first half was even in terms of play and chances. Second half wasn't wholly Villa but we were clearly the better side and played some very nice stuff at times. The goal was beautifully worked and the two disallowed goals (both offside) were well worked and well finished, which gives a flavour of some of the good stuff played. The Mail gave Ramsey MOTM but personally I was more impressed with Lewis Brunt, who looks calm, skilful and has an eye for a pass, or Jack Clarke who gave a typically tigerish display. To be fair it was hard to fault anyone and Dominic Revan (who is a strong central defender) gave a passable impression of a fast skilful winger on a couple of occaisions - how central defenders have changed over the years - Wright, Archer and Vassilev also caused problems and a mention for Mungo Bridge who came on and gave a passable impersonation of Tyrone Mings. All in all very enjoyable and as good a display as I've seen from our youngsters, given the standard of the opposition and all credit to the club for pursuing a policy of playing a lot of 18 year olds in this league and hopefully bringing them through quicker as a result. Newcastle were thumped 5-0 at home by Man Utd and bottom of the table Fulham & Sunderland played out a 1-1. Southampton are favourites and they play Thursday at WBA. All we can do is overtake Newcastle for 4th to change our playoff opponent. Wolves in pole position have a tricky trip to Man Utd to seal the deal. Reading level on points with Wolves but 9 goals worse off travel to Stoke.
