Why would Henry take this job if he is destined to fail? His managerially career would be over before it even started.

For him to turn down mega money to be a Pundit he must either be paid ridiculous money or been given assurances he will have all he needs to succeed.

I'm not against the idea in principle. I think he could potentially turn out to be a great manager but we'd be repeating the same mistake we've made over and over. Other than a couple of howlers we have not had a string of "bad" managers but we consistently fail to pick a manager suited to the circumstances we find ourselves in at that given time.

Yes, if we were going to take a gamble I would much rather do it with an ex villa man who has already had managerial success/experience even in a lesser league.

Exactly, and not just any ex-Villa man but someone who had/has a genuine connection with the club beyond just pulling on a jersey and collecting a paycheque.

People have used Zidane, Guardiola and Pochettino as examples of big name players who have 'made it' (use the term loosely for Zidane) as successful Managers but all of those began at clubs they had a great affiliation with.

You tell me we're hiring Olof Mellberg and I'll happily tow the line.

Tell me we're bringing in billy big bollox Henry and I'm sorry but I have nothing but deep reservations and pessimism.

It boils down to the fact a lot of fans aren't happy with Bruce's style of football and want a change.  With change comes the possibilities that it'll be better or it'll be worse. if you always do what you've always done,  you'll always get what you've always got.

Don't mean to be pedantic but not actually true.

You could end up on the same amount of points 5 seasons running and on one of those seasons you finish 1st and another you finish 5th.

You can be consistent whilst inconsistencies occur around you.

Just saying.

I'm quite partial to a Leyland

Van Hool is the way to go if you all want all the bells and whistles, but it comes at a cost

(I'm not a coach-spotter, its an industry segment I specialise in) :D

So we take someone with no experience and put them into a situation where they have to replicate or better the previous season

Are people really expecting us to better or equal last season?

I see this as year 1 of 3 - I think we're looking at 10th this year.

I think most people would agree with that right now, I doubt it would take much or long for it to unravel

I think if Henry takes over the aim will be to challenge for playoffs this season. Automatic next season.

Nah . Championship invincibles this season, then hounded out in 5 years because settling for 4th and an FA Cup every year is beneath us .

Book it.

Can you imagine the reception we are going to get when we play away at Millwall, Brentford etc

We are going to be playing against teams desperate to put one over a weathly club .The only thing Henry will bring is a lot of media coverage - and maybe this is the intention.
