I'm a big MMA fan and enjoyed UFC79,

I was dissapointed with the Chuck v Silva fight, it was a just a slug fest which was reminiscent of fights of 10 years ago, two guys swinging for the fences with little to no subtlety or game plan.

GSP can go on to dominate the WW division for years to come imo, that's twice now he's torn Hughes apart and don't see anyone who can stop him... as long as he keeps his head right that is.

And it was great to see that word removed Melvin taken out... again... hopefully thats the end for him because his attitude is not what the sport needs.

It's a shame Fedor has signed with K1, his fight with Hong Man Choi last night was just embarrassing

It was just a freakshow, which of course Fedor won by armbar in round one.

I personally am not a big fan due mostly to the grappling aspect which can often make it very boring to watch. I think predominately the sport is geared for the wrestler/grappler and this can contribute towards the nature of the fight.

In terms of this being a true example of a fight I would disagree, as a martial artist myself one should floor the opponent in a second and not entertain the 'going to ground' aspect which in a street encounter could be very dangerous. However, in a 'sport' scenario with rules and a referee this 'sport' is sanitised.

I think Anderson Silva can be and has been entertaining to watch due to his skills which incorporate many different systems. However, many of the fighter's are brawlers at best in my humble opinion!

^ Anderson Silva is a very good fighter, so smooth, classy and versatile.

GSP really dominated Hughes outwrestling him which probably added to the humiliation.

Can't wait for Lesnar to debut against Mir, I loved him when he was in WWE  Hopefully it's a good fight.

Thoughts on a possible Fedor/Couture fight?

Agreed Silva is a good fighter but how effective he will be in the UFC with the extra rules and the claustrophobia that the octagon causes is yet to be seen. He's still young enough to do it though, despite 3 straight losses. It was his lack of a gameplan which suprised me, Jardine showed how to neutralise Chuck but Silva didn't seem to have taken what happened in that fight on board... he seemed to be in awe of Chuck and the occasion where as Chuck (obviously) felt right at home.

Lesnar vs Mir is interesting but Mir has looked a shadow of his former self... it's a miracle he's still fighting at all after his accident. I've never had an interest in wrestling so i don't know a huge amount about Lesnar but it will be interesting to see how he adapts to mma

I can't see the Fedor/Couture happening and to be honest I'm not sure i want to see it. Randy's previous couple of fights have been brilliant in the sense that he had a gameplan and executed it to perfection. A real life Rocky story... whatever happens with the contractual situation won't change what he has achieved... but by the time the dispute is sorted i'm not sure he will be able to compete with Fedor, he seems to be heading into Hollywood and once he does that i think his fighting career is over.

I'm looking forward to Evan Tanner's return, after everything he's been through it will be interesting to see if he can still compete, i have the feeling Okami with prove too much too soon

Brock will probably use his fantastic amature wrestling background (106-5) as his main style however he's started to learn Jiu-Jitsu ontop of everything else he knows.

Tim Sylvia recently done an interview about Lesnar/Mir and had some interesting things to say.

Tim Sylvia spoke recently with Steve Cofield of ESPN radio and had some interesting things to say about his former training partner, Brock Lesnar, including a prediction in his upcoming fight with Frank Mir at UFC 81.

"I don’t think he’s gonna have a future in mma," said Sylvia. "I think Frank Mir’s gonna beat him.

"I’ve trained with Brock. I think Frank Mir’s gonna submit him. He’s a baby. Don’t kick him because he’ll get hurt. He’s a hell of a wrestler man, the guy can wrestle and he’s strong, but he can’t punch and he can’t get kicked. And he don’t know how to kick. He can only go straight forward. I think Mir will submit him."

Sylvia also believes that the UFC may be putting Lesnar in against Frank Mir in order to set up a future battle between himself and Mir.

"I think Mir has what it takes to submit him," continued Sylvia. "They could be lining this up between Frank Mir and myself down the road. They tried to [set up the] fight when I was supposed to fight Randy, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission would not sanction it. They thought I was too good for him. If he wins this fight I don’t think they could say he’s not good enough to fight me anymore."

Brock Lesnar is a very highly decorated collegiate wrestler. He was a four-time all-American, two-time big-ten Champion and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion. He finished his four year collegiate career with an outstanding record of 106-5.

Lesnar also enjoyed a very successful run in WWE before trying his hand at the NFL where he played some pre-season games for the Minnesota Vikings. He was later cut and declined an invitation to play in NFL Europe, instead deciding to go back to Pro Wrestling in Japan for a brief stint before finally settling on a career in MMA.

He has since dedicated himself to the sport, training with UFC Legend Royce Gracie and at Minnesota Martial Arts Best Academy of Minnesota with Sean Sherk, Nick Thompson, and Brock Larson.

He will face Mir at UFC 81 on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I thought UFC 79 was pretty great and GSP's range of skills are just scary, if he can keep his head together he could be the greatest in the sport for a long time. Serra can't be looking forward to a rematch, although at least Serra has alot to offer off of his back.

It is dull though isnt it? Most UFC fights just look like dry humping. Id rather see someone get knocked out by a punch than tap out because his arm has been bent the wrong way.

For anyone else who cares:

Source: TheSun.co.uk

UK Newspaper The Sun is reporting that the UFC is pushing for Brock Lesnar to headline the company's next PPV event from London, England: UFC 86 in June.

UFC President Dana White recently confirmed that the June 14th show will take place from London’s O2 Arena.

Insider sources told The Sun that Lesnar is the man they want to headline the important London show because of the huge international popularity he generated from his WWE career. UFC is working hard to secure London as a bankable market and they know Lesnar will draw a lot of interest.

Sweet, I need to get to this. I'm a Lesnar mark :)

God, what a shit weekend, flu, Villa were shit and my guy loses!!

Lesnar kicked Mir's ass all fight but his inexperience caused him to leave his leg in & he was caught by a world class Jiu-Jitzu artist. Atleast Lesnar chose to fight a great fighter for his first fight rather than some nobody. Lesnar lost his first amatuer wrestling match and we all know what happened after that. I got 3 out of 4 prediction right so I didn't do too bad.

Damn right pal weekend all around. The missus had the painters in, Ireland were muck, Villa were a shambles, poor old Brock tapped out and Laois lost to Galway.

I think Brock could be a real force tbh, he just needs to get some more experience. 9 hours a day in the gym and it was over so quickly. Minotauro vs Mir for the HW title down the line?

Henderson vs Silva should be a great fight next month, my money's on the Spider.

I thought the Lesnar fight was abit of a joke

the same referee caught Tibau hitting Griffin on the back of the head earlier in the night, and he shouted 'watch the back of the head' and tapped his head, i thin khe did it twice (not sure though)

in the momentum Lesnar hit Mir in the back of the head as Mir's head was turning, instead of the warning he used earlier in the fight, he stood them up when Lesnar was ina a dominant position and took away a point.

I wanted Mir to win, and i'm glad he's looking back to his best, but i thought that was harsh on Lesnar as he could of quite possibly finished the fight then. Respect to him for how he reacted to the defeat though, went up in my estimations.
