Looks like it's going to be WW2 judging by the clip released in this tweet.

Have to say I'm quite surprised by that. Thought they may have gone for Vietnam or a Modern setting since COD just did WW2.

I found BF1 quite boring really, so not really feeling a WW2 game. Would rather a BF3 type setting.

There has been talk and speculation for a good 12 months that there are two Battlefield games in development, one at DICE Sweden and one at DICE LA. The DICE Sweden game is Battlefield V which is set in World War 2, while the DICE LA one is rumoured to be a sequel to the Bad Company series.

That said I don't think either EA or Activision will be in a hurry to head back to modern day, both companies used licences from Humvee and other brands without permission and are now facing legal trouble. It's why Black Ops 4 is set in that Goldilocks zone between modern day and super future, it allows them to use fake vehicles and weapons under the creative licence of shit changes in the future. The last game set in modern day for both Battlefield and Call of Duty was in 2013, while both EA and Activision likely seeing the impending shit storm started work on non-modern war games. World War 1 and 2 are free use as there are very few active copyrights on weapons from that time period anymore which makes it perfect for EA who don't want to pay to licence things, same for future warfare if you can make everything up then everything from vehicles and weapons are your IP. Modern warfare in both franchises may be off the table until the Humvee lawsuit is settled.

I'm intrigued by Battlefield V being in World War 2, but I don't think it'll feel that much different to Battlefield 1.

Buzzing.

We had 9 years of modern warfare, I loved BF1 (although I havent put as much time into it as bf4 or 3) - I'm ready for round 2!

Trailer looks nice. Looks like some gameplay in the trailer I saw? Quite similar to BF1 in a few ways but looking forward to setting more.

The changes listed on brokenmachine and Jackfrags videos sound very impressive!

The trailer looks nice, but it sounds like they've gone for a much more immersive game, slower, more calculated.. watch out for movement in grass, listen for paintings being knocked off walls.

Everyone can revive, but only so much, so to get full health, you need to find and interact with a medkit.

Resources and ammo are sparce.

You will fall over if near a heavy shells shockwave.

If you are downed, a teammate can drag you to cover.

Everyone can build fortifications for defence and attack.

Classes are even more specialised, so you can recon like a sniper, or become a paratrooper behind enemy lines kind of stuff.

You can throw back grenades, or shoot them mid-air.

Sounds mind blowing - how well will it be implemented?

I pre-ordered the game after I watched the Jackfrags video.

It's a shame that EA themselves suck at marketing as their live stream/trailer didn't sell me on the game at all as that trailer looked like some Michael Bay shit, but when I heard that the game was slow, tactical and realistic I was sold.

There are 30+ changes in Battlefield V and most of them are fundamental changes to how the game will play, yet EA just presented Battlefield V as if it was just another unexciting sequel.

EA are fortunate that content creators like Jackfrags exist as they just gained a sale thanks to him.

Why did they leave out all the stuff which Jack was on about from the reveal?

I watched the trailer and just thought it was going to be a BF1 re-skin, but it sounds like a LOT has actually changed.

Yea I fully agree Daweii.  The trailer is flashy and snappy, but it wasn't representative of the game at all - I hope and imagine.  IT was all a million miles per hour stuff, which is completely conflicting of the information in videos by Jfrags, Broken, Levelcap etc.

I hope it's all implemented well.  Do we really want or need fortifications on choke points, like in Operation Metro or Operation Lockers on BF3/4?  I imagine it could become incredibly frustrating.  But, if as some have said, you can only build these things on specific structures and placements, then it could work.

I'm intrigued at how many times they said the word "sandbox".  You could argue that any map is a sandbox, but I'd argue that word isn't representative of maps like Lockers/Metro - to me, Sandbox is a much bigger, more open area - so what with the details that have come out, I'll be intrigued as to what they mean.  Just thinking out loud, you'd expect combat to happen on a much lower density than it is in BF1 - especially if there are things like "putting arm up to get a revive", "getting dragged to a safe place" - it just couldn't happen in the current setting could it? It's much too fast paced. There wouldn't be the opportunity to do it.  Interact with a med crate?  You'd be shot in seconds in BF1.  So that's exciting to find out.

So, lots of cool, new ideas (diving on your front, back or sides and being able to shoot, but with penalties etc), but how will they be implemented to make a fun and working game that isn't cheesing constantly?

Looking forward to finding out.

The trailer director has changed, so maybe he wanted to make his mark - I'm not sure.

The old trailers used to be good for breaking down because you'd see snippets of changes in them - this was more like one, long intro with a snippet of game play..

They said it was from the war stories and that multiplayer would be covered in 2 weeks at E3 - so we should see MUCH more about actual game play mechanics and changes then.

There were a few things you could pick up in the trailer, such as destruction of cover using high cal rounds, raising your arm for revives, picking up ammo from dead bodies, shooting from laying on your back, throwing back grenades, then shooting it to destroy the plane (you see "Vehicle destroyed" when it happens pop up) and a few other pieces, but it does seem like a huge set piece without much game play action.

I enjoyed the trailer for what it was, but DICE have done better reveals.

That MG42 noise though :)

personally for me it needs more conquest, thats what sets the series apart

They announced Grand Operations which is kinda like Conquest, but more granderer!!

The mode basically takes place over 4 in-game days with each day being a different map and objective.

Depending how well you do assaulting or defending the objective on day one affects how many resources, re-spawns and whatever else you take into day two which will be on another map with another random objective.

If the "war" isn't decided after day three, it will go to day four which sees players play a mode called Final Stand which means you spawn with one life and it's last team standing wins.

Now it's not said how long each match will take in Grand Operations mode, but assuming they all last about 20 minutes a 4-day campaign could last at least 1 hour 20 minutes which is pretty damn grand.

Also no premium pass/ splitting the player base due to map packs being behind paywall, All future maps, modes/expansions are free.  Expect a bunch of cosmetics available for individual purchase (not random loot boxes) but other than that you will get everything for the price of the game

Get ready for a very busy weekend if you're into Battlefield titles.

E3 gameplay reveal this evening from 6 can be found on YouTube at 6pm on the Battlefield channel.

Then all the YouTubers like levelcap & Jackfrags are playing and recording their time with the game which will probably be used for their weeks videos.

So, lots of stuff to come out I suspect.

Looks insanely good! Grand operations game mode sounds excellent too, definitely breaks up the repetitiveness of normal operations.

Yep, happy with what I have heard/seen.

Gun play being reverted back to a more BF3/BC2 hybrid, very welcome.  Fortifications doesn't seem too gimmicky, but useful.  Revive system doesn't seem too laboured or overly fast, the lack of ammo given at spawn seems quite cool/sensible (attrition or whatever they call it).  The build which is at E3 is very limited (they've scripted the V1/tank spawns, which will later be given back to squads).

Destruction seems much better than BF1, which is something to be said, because BF1 destruction seems very good still to me.

Looking forward to hearing more.  I'd like to see the body dragging mechanic for the medics etc.

Everything looks fantastic about the game but it's EA so there has to be a catch somewhere

Now the embargo from E3 has expired I'm looking forward to seeing more gameplay videos coming out over the next few days

Apparently pre-sales are 85% lower then the new COD game.

Whoops.

Personally I think they should have gone modern again. Can't really bring myself to get excited about another WW2 game, especially as COD did WW2 last year, and BF recently did WW1.

I've said it numerous times, but I do somewhat feel for DICE.

It's GREAT they've taken out Premium Passes at £40 a pop (plus your £40 for the game) - so now we'll have an unsplit player base.

It's great (I think) that they've gone for WW2, which even after 1, was wanted by a good portion of the community.

They've got to make money, so the customisation has been ramped up to the point where female soldiers/cosmetics has been turned to 11.

Then they had that reveal trailer which, although I didn't mind it, pissed a lot of the community off.

Now they've released a better trailer at Gamescom and people are settling down a bit, but that first impression has been damaging.  They've relied on youtubers and twitch players to create their hype for them, and it's failed.  The marketing for the game has been very poor and has not hit the spot in the same way BF3, BF4 and certainly BF1 did.

It'll be a very good game.  It can't really not be to be frank.

But the important thing they've failed to do, is to sell it to people.  I'm sure that will improve as the time passes closer to launch, but I haven't seen adverts or anything like I did with BF3, when they had 99 problems as the theme or the White Stripes in BF1 etc.

The gender issue is separate I think.  I don't think that's had much of an effect, but it's a vocal minority.  Plus when you get pics uploaded to main reddit channels of a German WW2 squad, and ALL of the players in it appear to be Chinese and none of them are wearing helmets.. well... you've annoyed the history buffs (like me) too.
