E3 2018

Appears Crackdown might be delayed again as Amazon have just cancelled all of their pre-orders for it.

Wonder if it will get a showing at E3? They should just cancel the whole project.

I have a feeling they will show something regarding Crackdown 3 just to show that it's still alive. It would be nice to see the multiplayer which is the more ambitious side of the game, it's also the side of the game that is causing all the delays..

As for games that are guaranteed to be at E3... Bethesda announced 'Fallout 76' earlier which is speculated to be an online survival/building kinda game akin to Rust/ARK/Conan Exiles. Lore wise that fits as Vault 76 was intended to be opened 20 years after the bombs fell with its inhabitants sole purpose to rebuild and repopulate the surrounding area. Fallout 76 is set in 2102 which is 25 years after the bombs fell so expect mutants that we've never seen before, but most importantly if the speculation and rumours are true then expect a Fallout game unlike any other Fallout game.

PS. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has confirmed that Crackdown 3 is not cancelled (or delayed) and that the Amazon pre-orders were cancelled due to a technical issue on Amazon's side.

Going OT

My mate has a gaming merchandise business and a couple of times ive helped him out and done comic con exhibitions with, ive done an assasins creed stand for a weekend, i will sell 20 of those key rings a day at £8 each, not to kids either, the amount of shit that gets bought is incredible, the plastic statues of the characters at £60 each they sell like hot cakes, i think it was syndicate that had a wrist strap with a spring loaded knife that shot out or the cane from the other character £30 each i sold 200 of them over a weekend

Lots of AC cosplay on the go

Ah Ubisoft.

Take some time to revitalise your flagship series after it had been run into the ground, get praise for taking that time to, more importantly, make changes, immediately run it into the ground again.

gears of war rumour ive seen this morning, maybe 3 new games, gears 5, a halo wars-esque RTS game and a battle royale special

and when i said about the sony studios that were currently busy working on new titles so the statement that they would only show 4 new games might be right, i missed off bluepoint games, sony's remake / rebuild specialists (who did shadow of the colossus) who will no doubt get a bit of anticipation as to what it might be (and probably the best chance of syphon filter ever coming back)

in that vein im hoping REmake 2 is done in a similar fashion, RE 4 style gameplay and camera

If Microsoft rock up by doubling down on their established franchises they've **** up. They've burnt them all, bar Forza (yet) out. They need to look at Sony this generation - they've managed to have massive success with new titles, like Horizon and Bloodborne, whilst having a few returning faces. Microsoft aren't going to sell more Xboxes with another Gears, another Halo, especially when those titles have had their crowns knocked off after lacklustre releases.

As for Bluepoint, the rumour for a while was they were working on a remake of MGS. Which I'd be entirely up for, provided they did it better than the Twin Snakes, which is awesome, in its own hokey way, but also highlighted that MGS was made with specific mechanics in mind and meddling with that broke the game in some ways. And that's without mentioning the John Woo stuff. I'd be surprised if that was actually their next project unfortunately though.

Yup. 3 Gears games is a bit excessive. 1 would probably 1 too many at this stage. The lack of any new innovative single player games is mad really, or even just a good single player game with an intriguing story.  The best they have come up with this gen was probably either Sunset Overdrive or Quantum Break, and they were both a bit shit.

Halo is on life support too. 343 have completely ballsed the franchise up and the story has gone to a place where it feels it's completely unrecoverable now. After Halo 6 they should reboot the series, maybe go back to when Masterchief was younger in a "Halo: Origins" type game and explore how he became the Masterchief, they could probably actually turn that into a decent story which would be fun to play. Could see some of the initial alien invasions on earth and they could even create some new enemy types to make the combat a bit more fun.

There hasn't been a Halo 'Origins' game yet? Jesus. I'd be very surprised if there hasn't already been pressure on the devs to do so, it seems like the obvious choice for a spin off / potential money maker.

Reach was the closest they've come to an 'Origins' game. That iirc explained one of the earlier parts of the story, that that there is, but was also conveniently a point at which they could still make an out and out Halo game without many fundamental changes from the formula.

I still find Halo's popularity bizarre. The first was revolutionary for the genre, of course, but everything afterwards didn't have that awe factor and the world and mythos of Halo is shite. Even the multiplayer got outdone soon enough (and personally I never liked that either).

Blimey does Microsoft have a real dearth of top franchises. Sony is tripping over them. And making new ones. And reinventing old ones now too. Forza is the one thing Microsoft really shines with and even that is helping old hat with far too little changing across the main entries, and Horizon in danger of burn out too.

yep same here, i even thought halo 1 was pretty shit, it had some good ideas i found it a bit boring, the enemies in the whole series have been really poor IMO and the story element never captured my imagination in a way that shooters considered inferior like resistance and killzone did

While that was my first thought and I'm still not pleased that Odyssey is scheduled for this fiscal year it sounds like it will feel somewhat "unique" again. There is internal talk of dialogue options and multiple protagonists to choose from, so its going even further down the RPG rabbit hole this time. I think this game will do just fine despite launching a year after the last one, but if they do the same in 2019 fatigue will start to set in again.

For me Halo was all about getting together with friends and setting up Lan party's and playing split screen. I will always have a huge fondness for the multiplayer as it has a genuine skill gap. I have the same fondness for Goldeneye, but halo came and took it to the next level with network play.

Unfortunately COD came and made a gameplay type that everyone no matter how skilled you are could feel like a champion in a one off game.

If you suck on halo, you're never having a good game. If you suck on cod, at some point you'll go on some huge killing spree still.

I don't think Halo has ever recovered from that, and the feeling of constantly losing puts people off trying to get good.

Back on topic, MS has had a terrible gen. They should be putting all their efforts into having a good selection of first party Gen games for next gen. Can surely only be a couple years left of this gen?

Yeah i see that quite a lot by people who like the game, for me 17 years later i still judge games solely on their single player campaign, just never got the online bug

That said as a split screen shooter with friends bring back timesplitters!!

Theres another company that are really quiet at the moment, crytek, crysis 3 and ryse were 5 years ago

Crytek recently released Hunt: Showdown into Early Access on PC.

As for those other games Crytek aren't the huge studio they were when they made Crysis 3 and Ryse.

Crytek in 2016 closed several of its studios and laid off dozens of staff, but worse a large amount of staff quit because Crytek stopped paying them. Now Crytek did come out and say that they remain committed to "working on premium IP's" so they might have something in the pipeline with a big publisher, but they aren't hiding that they don't have much money right now. I would be surprised if a miracle $100+ million contract was offered to make Ryse 2, or Crysis 4.

It's a shame though that it's come to this. Crytek still exist in a small capacity and they have one current/new game in the form of Hunt: Showdown which is a promising title, it's just nothing to the scope and scale of what they used to make.
