Quite unlucky to an extent, Arsenal.  Got in some really good positions but a combination of Atletico flooding their own box and the final ball being utterly terrible (particularly from Monreal) meant they never really got a proper chance to score.

As an aside, timing format change couldn't come sooner enough in football.  Make the matches 60 minutes long with time only counting when the ball is in play.  It's boring watching (predominantly Spanish) teams just time waste over and over in the final 10 minutes.

madrid are just too good at preventing teams scoring,, especially at home. They have only conceeded 4 goals in 17 league games  & clean sheets in all 4 uefa games now. amazing really as it is their first  season there

Arsenal are unlucky in the respect they've come up against a champions league semi final standard team in the europa semi final. They would've beaten Salzburg and been favourites against Marseille. Atletico obviously better than what Man. United came up against in the same stage last season.

Arsenals downfall was trying to score an arsenalesque perfect goal (again) you could see where the space was, absolute acres out wide, but they either played a 5 yard pass in tp traffic in the middle or played a shit ball across

You have a packed box and tons of space, low and really hard everytime, hope for a shit deflection or something dropping to the 3 players you have on the edge, dont try a delicate pass through 5 atletico players

The 2 legs have been proper wengers arsenal

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Full backs had loads of space outwide, Atletico were so compact in the middle, Arsenal really should have used that to their advantage.

But this Arsenal, and Wenger is stubborn, it's his way or no way, which is part of the reason why they've been in decline for so long.

They need some fresh ideas. It's a good thing that Wenger is leaving imo.
