Twitter How to Guide

blandy

Question

How to post a tweet in VillaTalk

VillaTalk guidelines ask that posters please post a link to tweets, rather than screenshots. This is because if a tweet is deleted due to legal issues, it also disappears from VT and we don't get into legal trouble. Here's how to post a link to a tweet.

If viewing twitter in a browser, do this: Click the little arrow next to the tweet (see picture) and a drop down appears - select "</> Embed tweet"

twit.jpg

then go to VT and in your posting/reply box simply paste the copied link (ctrl + v or cmd +v, or right click + paste). Next, see what happens. Most browsers will automatically embed the tweet. If it doesn't embed, you may need to click the "paste as plain text" link as shown below (or you can paste via ctrl + shift + v in a windows browser which also has the same effect as the "paste as plain text instead"):

If you are using tweetdeck to view twitter, then at the bottom of each tweet are 3 little dots. Click the dots and then select "copy link to this tweet"

Screen Shot 1.JPG

Then as per the above, paste the link into VT in your browser

If you're using twitter for iPhone or iPad, then next to the tweet is a "forwarding" icon (an up arrow in a tray). Select that and choose “share tweet via”

and then select the link icon for "copy link to tweet"

And paste the link into VT as above.

On Android, like on the browser, look for the little down arrow in the top right of the tweet. "Copy link to Tweet" (or "Embed Tweet" if there's no "copy link" option) and then paste it into VillaTalk.

Please allow 2-3 seconds for the site to format your post and make the tweet visible before clicking on "Submit Reply".

And a video (thanks to @Dick😞

Thank.

I did try that.

* I clicked arrow on twitter post I wanted to share.

* I clicked embed tweet

* A new page opened in my browser which prompted me to 'copy embed link'

* I pasted link directly into VT. (I also tried paste as rich and plain text) And waited at least 2 mins.

Cache has been cleared. Oh btw, I'm using an Android device and brave browser.

The first link here is the correct one. I've pasted it below as plain text.

It might be a problem with your browser.

Thanks.

When you suggested a problem with my browser I had a look at the settings and it seems that Brave has some sort of blocking monitor. I've switched it off for VT and it now appears to work

I've been PM'd by a mod and told I'm doing it wrong with tweets. This is how I do them. Can someone advise what's wrong with that please?

Nothing. Perhaps you could tag the mod so that they can explain. I assume that you did something different elsewhere.

Apparently it was a single post from earlier which didn't come out right (Gboard on Chrome Android can be tricky in the rich text editor so probably that) and I didn't realise the mod meant only one which I'd done. All good.

Thank you, I followed them closely and thought I might need to clear cache etc which I did, my attempt above was the last if 5 attempts I think.

On twitter I clicked on the drop down to select embed, copied when option came up then paste here as plain text and that was the result.

That was using my laptop/Microsoft Edge.

Ah this was done from my phone, maybe it's just my laptop edge issue.

This is loosely based on the topic but I didn’t want to start a whole new thread so……

using IOS devices to access VT on Chrome, Twitter links posted on VT r not displaying leaving a blank area (with perhaps some text typed by the poster). They show up fine when using Android devices, so I’m wondering if I need to change something in the settings on my iPad?
