Popular Post Demitri_C
Quote Aston Villa squad's £20,000 pledge to Moin Younis There is currently no cure for Moin's condition and he and his family are trying to raise £250,000 for new treatment Aston Villa players have donated £20,000 towards pioneering treatment for a fan with a rare skin disorder. Moin Younis, 18, from Birmingham, has epidermolysis bullosa which causes his skin to tear and blister at the slightest touch. There is currently no cure but Moin and his family are trying to raise £250,000 so he can take part in a new clinical trial in Austria. If fans match the £20,000, the club says it will donate a further £20,000. Moin's condition is so severe that every morning he goes through an excruciating skin care routine that can last up to six hours. Midlands Live: Red Arrows death: Firm admit safety errors; Stoke: No intention of selling Crouch to Chelsea Aston Villa said Gabby Agbonlahor has helped get the players to raise money for The Moin Younis Fund. Media caption'My skin blisters at the slightest touch' The teenager won Pride of Britain's Teenager of Courage award last year. The club said he also works them, in particular, The Aston Villa Foundation for good causes. "Should Villa supporters match the £20,000 raised by the players, chief executive Keith Wyness has promised the club will also contribute that figure to the fund - meaning £60,000 would be donated in total," the club said. It added: "As a gesture of goodwill, we now hope that between the club, its players and supporters that we can play a significant role in helping Moin on the way to a better quality of life." Click Football aside, its gestures like this that make me a proud Aston Villa fan. I will be donating so hopefully the fans can raise the £20,000 and Wyness said the club would match this. Eastie
Yes here - https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/moin-fund The Mo Fund is a group of people who want to help Moin Younis and his family. Moin won the Teenager of Courage Award at the 2017 Pride of Britain Awards, he is also a proud ambassador for the Acorns Children's Hospice, Birmingham. Moin suffers from the rare genetic disorder Epidermolysis Bullosis (EB), which makes his skin very fragile. He endures a painful five-hour regime every day to bandage his skin. There is a new clinical trial led by a European team which could help Moin, however it is only available in Austria. The treatment is an ambitious attempt to treat the skin with genetically modified skin grafts. It is important to understand that there are significant hurdles. Firstly, Moin will need to be clinically eligible for this treatment and even then he will need to apply to be accepted onto the trial, there are no guarantees that this will happen. However, if he is successful in being accepted for the trial, there will be a significant cost implication which would make it impossible for him to undertake this without help. Moin will need up to £250,000 to enable him and his family to go ahead. This would be needed to cover day-to-day medical treatment costs while abroad (yet out of hospital), as the actual trial if he is accepted, is funded. His support team and family will also need support whilst living abroad, not to mention pre and post clinical assessments which could continue for over two years. We are currently working closely with Moin, his parents and his clinical team in progressing towards this and we will keep all supporters regularly updated on his progress. Paddywhack
I saw a clip of 'My Life Without Skin', the Victoria Derbyshire programme he did earlier this month and it broke my heart. It's him getting his bandages changed and he's in agony. Since our work with Acorns we've seen Moin popping up on AVTV or wherever and because of his charisma and humour I'd kind of forgotten, or never really realised, how serious his condition was. I wish him all the best, he deserves it.

Villan_of_oz Posted January 23, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted January 23, 2018 It's gone up a fair bit just in the last couple of hours. Looks like £60k from The Villa then. Hope it's more. Kinda of makes you feel silly when you see people up against it but they're still smiling, still making the most out of life.

markavfc40
I am surprised that this has still only raised just over 13k as it was on over 12k about this time last night. I know it is a simplistic way of looking at it but if just the adults who regularly attend VP on a match day gave a quid each it would raise 30k.
