A really interesting point and you can see it in the way the big players want games ref now, Neymar and the like think they're playing basketball at times.

It does seem to be dying out of the game a bit. The emphasis coming through is completely on playing the ball with your feet. Heading is even banned in some places for youth age groups. Heading doesn't play a big part in academy football as it is ingrained into the players to keep the ball on the deck and play with your feet.  You can see this by looking at all the highest rated young CBs. They are all "ball playing" CBs who are usually slighter and more skilled than your old school CB. United's recent signing in Lindelof coming in highly rated, also struggles in the air. Or James WIlson has an incredible standing jump which should lend itself to being good in the air but jumping high isn't very relevant for him because he has never learned how to properly judge the flight of the ball and time headers. Rashford is also quite weak at judging headers.

I imagine he’s being signed to add competition to our squad, and if he’s good enough he plays. Surely that’s the same as any signing, I doubt we ever sign a player to sit on the bench, or to start for that matter, surely all players hope to be starting and likely are confident enough to think they can.

Then the manager can play they or not depending on how good they are.

It took years for Cristiano Ronaldo to score a goal with his head, once he started he became world class.

This is an odd one if it happens. Surely promising players like this don't go on loan to sit on the bench and play the odd game here and there.

But there is no way he plays cb and surely will only play dm when jedinak isn't fit. Maybe rb but then we could field a 5 a side team of just rbs.

I don't see the big advantage of coming to us. If man u are sending him on loan it would make more sense for them and him to send him to a team where he plays week in week out

He grew up playing Futsal, like Messi. Ball doesn't get off the floor, is smaller and heavier etc. No heading involved.

Jedinak is injury prone, Whelan isn't and I doubt Thor will be sold until the summer.

Whelan is 34, injuries are likely. Thor looked good yesterday but there were reports he’s off to Seria A in jan. Axel seems like a versatile defensive young stand-in for a few positions.
